How Do You Feel About Waking People Up?

I can't stand it!! One of my friends told me this morning to come over this afternoon, and wake them if they're sleeping (they work night shift).

Uh... no, if you want to hang out, you better be up.

So I'm supposed to be over there in 30 minutes and tried calling, haven't heard anything.

What would you do? Wait until you hear from them? Or go over there like they said and wake them?

I think I'm afraid that if they're not awake, I'm just going to be sitting outside of their house like a fool.

What would you do?

What can I do next?

I'm probably too late to the party with this answer but if they said to wake them up, then they want you to wake them up, right?

She asked you to wake them-so do it-if you are able! Sounds like they may be heavy sleepers!

In the words of Bartleby the Scrivener: "I would prefer not to." (wake people up)

Your friend should buy an alarm clock. Sheesh. That's what the rest of the humans do.

Unless, of course, we are missing some fascinating piece of information from your post. Like, perhaps, if you were always late, and then this would be reasonable ("I never know when she's coming...I'll just sleep til she gets here.") Otherwise, yeah, the alarm clock. Levi Hutchins knew what he was doing in 1787 when he invented it--timeliness never goes out of style!

YOu've called her, Leave messages like Calling to wake you up, when you are awake call me. That way he bal is in her court, so to speak.
And I would not go to someone's house to wake them up.

ETA: I would if I had the key and the parents were out of state and asked me to look in on their teenager. THen, if I didn't get an answer when I called I would go over and wrangle them out of bed.
But I would not wake an adult friend

Yes, there will be quite a waiting period for you if you show and wake her.
She didnt really want to do the plan or she would not need assistance.

added later: If they dont answer the phone, why would they answer the door? Just wondering.

If they tell you to wake them up then do it. I had a friend that I had to make sure she was awake every day for work. She would sleep thru her alarm. If we were going to hang out I had to make sure she was awake.

This reminds me of a joke:
"Did you wake up grumpy? No, I perfer to let him sleep"

You called and no answer, I would call again and leave a message like 'call me when you get up and we can hang out'. When this person calls I would say 'I know how tough it is to work 3rd shift so I thought maybe you needed the sleep'.

No, I can't hardly stand waking people up. But then they sound like heavy sleepers and they asked so take them at their word.
I don't usually ask people to do this and never have till the last couple years - a few times. Because I knew I was so tired I probably wouldn't wake up and I wanted to be up with the person I asked. Like when my friend spent the week. I asked her to wake me and she didn't do it and I was a bit put off by it. I know I should wake up and usually do, but I knew there might be the chance I wouldn't bc of exhaustion and I had done before where I slept so deeply and was shocked when I awoke and everyone was up. I had not been that way all my life.
When you're on midnights it's a hard way to sleep and hard to get to sleep so I think they really mean wake them up
Knock on the door until they get up.

I would tell them no, you call me when you are awake and then I will come. I don't have time to sit around and wait on people to wake up. If its someone in my family or immediate close circle of friends---thats different. I would do anything for my family and close friends....so just depends.

I don't think you look like an alarm clock.
If I take a nap and know I need to be awake at a certain time, I'll set a timer or alarm clock and get up when I'm suppose to.
It doesn't sound like hanging out with you is a big priority for them.
I'd probably go over and bang on their door and give them 10 min to answer it.
If nothing happens, then leave and do something else.
Thoughtful people who value you and your time won't do things like this.
Upgrade your circle of friends.

I would not want to be waking people up. They should get up on their own, shower and dress, so their visitors won't be sitting around waiting for them to do that!

You are nicer than me, I guess. I don't wake people up. I don't even like waking my sks who are well old enough to wake themselves up when they need to. If you already called and got no answer, then consider that you tried. A hotel would do no more than that. I would make other plans and leave a message for the person that I bailed.
