I had an ultrasound this morning due to painful ovarian cysts (ive had 9 since having my daughter in November) all anyone could say was "wow" at the size of this thing. The dr told me that i am no longer producing the hormones to bring on ovulation or at least not enough of that hormone which has caused me to stop ovulating. My chances of getting pregnant right now are slim to none (no im not trying again yet) he wants to try putting me on birth control to see if we cant get the hormone production back and either shrink the cysts or get rid of them. if that doesnt work we move on to synthetic hormones my last options are fertility drugs or no more kids... I hate the thought of not being able to have anymore children.. since i was a little girl ive always wanted to be a mommy, yes i have a daughter and shes my life but i would like to have one or two more one day and im very weary about fertility drugs because i know they can cause multiples and ive got twins running in my family. has anyone else ever gone through something similar and had the problem corrected??

*Honestly feeling like my world is crashing down*

What can I do next?

I was having trouble ttc my second child (got pg w/ first after 1 month of trying). I ended up getting diagnosed w/ PCOS and was put on metformin. I was pregnant 4 months later. If you want more information on how metformin works feel free to contact me. Good luck!

I went on Metoformin to conceive my oldest child. We wanted to have more children. So we went to a doctor when our oldest was about 1 1/2yrs. The doctor told me he doubted I would ever have anymore children. I didnt let his words define me. I was not locked in his thought processes.
I visualized having more children and we went on to have two more kids one boy and and one girl.
Don't believe him if there is a will there is a way.

I am taking pills right now to help me Ovulate. A low dose because I watch what goes in my body very closely and we tried for over 2 years and had everything looked into before trying this. I can tell you that a wellness doctor is great for leveling out your hormones. Also as ladies if our Iodine is to low in our body's it will cause this. Iodine is something that my OB does not even look at but the wellness doctor will and does. It will mess up your hormones and cause you not to be able to get pregnant or if you do you may not be able to carry the child. Also if you have a health food store where they sale all natural stuff go talk to them. We have a herb doctor here who is great. They can tell you of things you can use to help too. If you want another child, keep faith because there are things out there that could work out great for you.

I had a cyst on my ovary about 3 years ago. It grew bigger than a quarter, smaller than a half dollar. It got quite painful... My doc put me on progesterone based BC pills to try and shrink it--actually, it grew bigger. When it got about 3 cm in diameter, my doc removed it (larthoscopy, through the belly button).

Although there is no scientific evidence to support this opinion, I suspect that progesterone based BC pills brought it on. I had been on progesterone based BC pills soon after the birth of my daughter (while nursing) and that's when the cyst started; when I was on estrogen based BC pills (years before), I never had any cyst issues. When I was put back on progesterone based BC pills to shrink the cyst, it grew substantially bigger in those 2 months. Granted I was 36 at the time and cysts tend to occur as you grow older... however, I quit all BC hormones after the cyst/surgery. I'll be 39 in a few months and currently pregnant.

My advice is to deal with the cyst before you deal with more hormones and infertility. Get it removed if it doesn't resolve itself. Because you don't want it to grow around your ovary (and keep eggs from getting out) or attach to a blood vessel and starve the overy or eggs of blood and nutrients. Get off of the BC hormones and see if that stops the growth of cysts. Maybe your ovary will recover if the cycle of cysts is stopped? Then, after trying that, if the ovaries and cysts were not impacted by stopping BC hormones for a 8-12 months, then I would try the synthetic hormones and fertility drugs.

Good luck!

I have been through infertility. If I had to do it all over again, I would have gone straight into alternative medicine, particularly Chinese medicine. I tried acupuncture to relieve premature menopause and I had the blood tests to prove that it worked. Chinese medicine is really practical. It sounds weird at first but I like it. The idea is that if your body is not functioning correctly, it is imbalanced. To add synthetic hormones will not correct whatever is causing the imbalance. They suggest eating certain foods, taking herbs, and trying acupuncture. Also, stress really does affect your body negatively, diet really does, everything is connected in Chinese medicine. With your endocrynologists and ob/gyns, they are not stupid, but they do not really pay much attention to your diet, your personal life, your stress - they don't even look at all your physical symptoms on your body - just your reproductive symptoms. A holistic approach makes more sense to me. Best wishes to you! Don't give up yet. By the way, I have twins from the infertility treatments and they are an absolute joy!

My sister tried to get pregnant for many years . She would go 6 months without a period. she was told that she had poly cystic ovaries. When she was 39 a lady told her to take folic acid & black kohosh with in 6 months she was pregnant. She had a little girl. She kept taking the folic acid & black kohosh and 8 months later she was told she was pregnant again and had a boy this time. The Dr did give her a hard time becuase she was 40 and 41 when she had the kids. Some Dr's need to learn some bed sight manners. I just put up a Question for "Chubby little girls" thats when I saw your help please!! Dont give up. Y.

This may not be the answer you're looking for, but as a mother of TWO incredible adopted baby girls, I can tell you that that is a very very VERY loving, incredible relationship that will give you the children that you crave - and give children that need a home a home and family.

I hope you're not offended by the suggestion, and I know its something that some women either don't want to do or have to process for a long time before being comfortable with this avenue - but believe me, it's such an incredible, fulfilling, at-least-as-deep-a-love as natural born children. It is.

Good luck w your journey ;)

so sorry that you are going through this.

i had an ovarian cyst that ruptured when i was in my early 20's. it was all of the pain of child birth with no child - and even got melasma - i was seeing a bunch of doctors, but i guess no one had the whole picture - internist, dermatologist, etc. i had no idea what was wrong with me until my sister rushed me to the emergency room and after a plethora of tests was it figured out. going on birth control solved the issue of getting my hormones in check, but it put me off on having kids for many years. i have one child.
