Help Looking for a Birthing Center

I need to find a Birthing Center that has an OBGYN on staff (for billing reasons). I have BCBS of GA and they do not cover just a midwife. The only way they will cover a Birthing Center is if there is an OBGYN on staff.

There is a law in Florida that if the insurace company covers Maternity they have to cover a Licensed Midwife. When I called up BCBS they said "It does not matter what the law is in Florida your insurance is Georgia and we go by Georgia law." If I go out of network it will be close to 2000.00 out of pocket and this is something we refuse to pay.

So now I am more than a little upset but I am sure there has to be a birthing center with an OBGYN on staff.

What can I do next?

Have you checked the Birthing Center on Hollywood, Fl located on Federal Highway? Not sure if they have a OBGYN, but I know they are one of the best known centers in S. Florida and if they do not, maybe they can help you with a referral.

Hi,

I'm currently using the Hollywood Birth Center and I can tell you that while they have back up Ob/Gyns, they don't have any on staff. I'd suggest the Hallandale Birthing Center. I have heard a lot of good things about it although I have no personal experience with them.

I know someone else mentioned him but I have used Dr. Wayne DiGiacomo for both of my pregnancies. He used to be the back up doctor for the Hollywood Birth Center before he opened up his own birth center called A Birth Center in Hallandale. He is ok as far as doctors go but I LOVE the midwives on staff. With my first pregnancy, I was falsely labeled high risk by a cut happy OB and Dr. D accepted me to switch to him even though I was 8 months pregnant. Not only that, he fought my insurance to remove the high risk label (even though he would have received more money) and let me opt to use the birth center. I was able to see the midwives using my insurance and it paid for my birth at the birth center as well. We had my insurance file say that I was opting for a hospital birth or undecided and then at the end of my pregnancy, we just switched the file to say birth center.
