Seeking OB/GYN near Aventura

I've just moved here and would like to find an OB before getting pregnant again. I've had 2 miscarriages and was on bed rest for the last 2 months of my pregnancy with my son. I had an unpleasant experience with the OB I went to soon after moving here and would love some advice to help narrow my search.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to answer my request. I agree that I need an OB vs. a midwife. In addition to my miscarriages and bed rest, I am a thyroid patient with low progesterone and I had a c-section with my son. I appreciate the advice to go to Dr. Firestone, however he was actually the "unpleasant" experience I had when I first moved here. Maybe I just saw him on a bad day. The thing that troubled me the most about my visit is that even knowing my history, he took no bloodwork and sent me on my way to get pregnant. Thyroid has a big impact on pregnancy and I guess I want an OB who will watch over it and not leave it solely in the hands of the Endocrinologist. That's what happened with my last miscarriage and I don't want to take that chance again.
Dr. Bitran wasn't in my Network, but I do appreciate the response. I've seen Dr. Karen Hirschberg since I wrote my request. I liked her, but I'm not so sure about her staff. Does anyone know anything about her or Dr. Violeta Lyra? I'm still searching. Thanks for all of the advice

I also go to Dr. Mark Firestone in Aventura. Small world. I agree with Cindy, he is wonderful!! I've been seeing him for about 20yrs. if not longer. The only thing is, he stopped delivering babies. He delivered my son 4 years ago and when I was pg again in 2005, he told me he stopped. He partner Dr. Grabois delivered my second son in July of 2006. He's also good. You should make an appointment and meet with him. Let us know what happens. Good luck

The midwives at Hollywood Birth Center are excellent. I highly recommend them.
There's also A Birth Center off Hallandale. I hear good things about them, too.

i certainly cannot reccomend an obgyn but i can honestly say that in your situation you should not go see midwives at all. you would be considered highrisk and like said before in a previous response no self respecting midwive would accept you. they do not have the knowledge to deal with high risk pregnancies. only an obgyn can do that. as for the lady who reccomended hollywood birthing center i will disagree with her from personal experience. do not go to hollywood birthing center they are what i would consider neo hippies with no experience and a big money scam. to put simply they were not educated enough about preganacy in general and almost cost my life as well as my childs because all they could do for me was lie to my face which put my child and i at risk (because they wanted to get paid). i thank god that my husband had enough sense to take me to an emergency room rather than to hollywood birthing center. i wouldnt be here today if he hadnt made that choice to go to a professional at a hospital. good luck in your search. i hope you will have better luck than i did. as for mt sinai yes they have good doctors but the ones i came across were either unprofessional or none of them took high risk pregnancies.

i moved down here when i was pregnant (i was considered a high risk pregnancy) from another city in a another state. you will not find the quality healthcare that you would expect to find back west. if you are looking for something like that your best bet is to look in broward or up in palm beach. i have been here for a few years now and still have yet to find a doctor that comes anywhere near the expectations that i had grown accustomed to from before i moved.

If you've had miscarriages and were on bed rest, DO NOT go to a midwife. As a matter of fact, no self-respecting midwife will accept you as a patient. You absolutely need a doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Bitran in Mt. Sinai. Aventura Hospital does not have a maternity ward or a NICU, so getting a doctor in Aventura will do you no good since you can't deliver around here anyway. I had a high-risk pregnancy myself and had to go see him once a week, and the commute is only 30 minutes, so it's not bad at all. He did my c-section so well that I healed in 10 days and have virtually no scar (he glued me back together!), whereas my friends with c-sections ended up recovering for a month.

I don't know of an ob but you might like the personal care a midwife provides.

Miami Maternity Center

And A Birth Center which is run by an OB

Just because someone had m/c and was on bedrest does not make them high risk.
