We will be going there, in Round Rock area.... Hutto . for 3 days . What do you suggest would be a must see with a 12 yr old and 8 yr old and in laws...........september
If you like caves, there are several in the area..... Just north of Round Rock is Georgetown, with Inner Space Cavern...
And there are a couple down near San Antonio... the Natural Bridge Cavern is real nice.....
I am not sure how far away Lockhart is. But my mom and dad were telling me just yesterday that Lockhart is a great day trip place - go hungry. They have lots of BBQ joints. Go sample all the different BBQs. Apparently they are all owned by family members who think their recipes are the best.
Fredericksburg or Boerne may be too far, but both places have nice "walk down the street, pop into antique/gift/snack/specialty stores" and September should be nice weather to do that in.
Enchanted Rock and Georgetown would make good day trips.
San Antonio is awesome! See the Alamo, the River Walk, and the Southwest Cultural Center. There is also a children's museum.
They might also like seeing the capitol bldg in Austin.
