Heels...the Silent Killer

I need your fashion wisdom, Mamas!

I desperately want a sexy pair of heels. I'm still in my twenties, I figure I only get this decade once and I'd like to live it up a little! However. I have not worn a pair of shoes with lift since I was, like, fourteen. Honestly childbirth is less painful!

So. What brand/style would you recommend? Here is the other criteria: I LOVE frye boots/shoes but they are way, way out of my price range. Same goes for brands naot, dansko and the like (I will say also, I'd like something a little more provocative than what dansko offers) I'd like it if this fantasy heel had closed heel and toe...I want to wear them in the rain/cold.

Does it exist?

So What Happened?

Oh ladies, thank you for indulging me in this (highly important, ha ha) post.

I did it. I just bought a pair of heels that make my knees weak (hopefully not literally!). I followed the advice that a really good pair of heels can last a decade, so "invest" in a good pair. And I spent WAY too much money (and got an early christmas/late birthday present from my loving family) on a e-bay pair of Frye booties. Oh goodness are they beautiful and black, enough to make even the toughest shoe critic red with envy.

Had to cash in 1000 favors to make it happen, but so worth it. So. Thanks again for all your advice and help on this matter. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it's sort of a symbol and gift of reclaiming my body and sexuality after a couple years of feeling frumpy and babied-out. I figured if I don't start working on my self image/love now, it will only get harder and harder as time goes on (also why wait - seize the day!). I know that comes from within, but dang, a pair of amazing shoes sure doesn't hurt the process. Thanks again.

Well, Sofft may also be out of your price range, but it's what you're looking for. Comfortable, but sexy! VERY worth the money! I will also say that Frye is worth saving up for. I have a pair of harness boots I purchased in 2004 and they are still in great shape after being worn constantly in the fall and winter everywhere from work to concerts. And you may want to invest in some sexy, but high quality shoes because you can still wear heels, dress and be sexy in your 30s, 40s and even your 50s and beyond...

I'm in my late thirties and 6 months pregnant and have yet to give up on my 3-inch plus heels and I too love fryes =) Piperlime (associated with Gap) and Amazon are good places to get those on sale and you usually get free shipping. Since you haven't worn heels in a while I would suggest you don't immediate start with the spiked heel and that you go for a platform style. You can get the height and sexiness but obviously far more comfy since your feet will not be at such an awkward slant. Have fun!!

Cole Haan makes heels and boots with Nike technology. They are super comfy but expensive. Try some on in a store and then see if you can buy some over the internet cheaper or on sale at a dept store!

Look at Naturalizers. Most of their shoes are "sensible" shoes, but they do carry some heels that are flattering and more comfortable than most. I have a pair of nude leather strappy 4 inch wedge sandals that I bought from one of their outlet stores almost 10 years ago and I wear them every summer. I know they have closed styles that would be more appropriate for fall/winter.

Killer Kushionz, buy them and put them in any shoe you think looks great. Buy them first & try shoes on with them so you make sure to have the correct fit. When I buy tennis shoes I rip out the cheap insole it's made with & put in the right one for my feet. Why wouldn't you put the correct padding in a dress shoe? I have plenty of those expensive shoe brands you don't have the money for, mostly Dansko, I still have to put padding in them. Look for styles at zappos.com. I recommend a wedge heel, all the sexy & more stability. Lifestride-Janica.
