A friend of mine suggested buying EarCheck - a product sold at Walgreens for $50 and you can check your childrens ears to see if they have an infection. She has used one on her daughter for over 3 years and she said it has done wonders and has made her worry less. Just checking to see if anyone has used one before and what your thoughts are on this product?

Thanks!

We have one and I didn't find it to be very helpful. We would scan her ear and it was come back green (so the ear looks good) then would check a few minutes later and it would come back red. Once we came back from the doctor, we had been there for follow up t make sue her last ear infection was cleared up, and it was. Used the ear check, and it still came back red. My husband and I would often check ourselves, and almost every time it would come back red, and I knew I don't have an ear infection. I think it is just very sensitive to how far in the ear it is, the angle it is at, how still your child holds, etc. . . I would never have paid $50 for it, so not worth it in my opinion. (Got it at a consignment sale for $8.)

As a medical professional, I can tell you that this sounds like a gimmick to me. The only way you can actually check your child's ear for fluid retention/infection is to actually SEE it with an otoscope.

If you really want to have a look, try one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Generation-Dr-Mom-Slimline-Stainles...

The otoscope will come with a booklet to show you what you're looking at.

Best!

I got my own otoscope years ago.
I wouldn't trust EarCheck more than I would seeing things for myself.

Oh my gosh! I just had to go look this up!! How cool! My daughter has only had two infections, and I've only been to the doctor 3 times thinking it could be... but this would be awesome!

I'm curious, too, if other moms have used it and what they thought about it.
