Hello Moms,

I am new to Virginia Beach (moved here in August) and I am stressing out about where to send my 5 year old for 1st grade next year. Any responses on great schools in Va Beach would be so helpful!!!

Thanks,
D.

It all depends on where you live in Va Beach. There are a lot of good schools and only a few not so good schools in Va Beach. They all passed the SOL's every year they've been out. The Great Neck Area is good - Trantwood Ele., Alanton, Linkhorn Bay, John B. Dey are all good schools. My son went to Linkhorn for Kindergarten and it's a wonderful school! Also, the Kempsville Area is really good too - Arrowhead Ele and Kempsville Ele. I would try to stay away from the Green Run area; that's one of the not so great school areas. Hope this helps!

Hi D.. My son isnt quite in school yet ( 10 months) but I have lived in Virginia Beach most of my life. There are a few year round schools around here abd I recommend Point-O-View elementary, it is located in Kempsville. My brother went to that school and he did really well when they swichted to year round..cant beat a month off for christmas either! I did a few internships a Kempsville elementary and absolutly love the school. They are not year round and they just remolded a few years back and the teachers are just plain awesome. Hope that helps!

I have been doing a lot of research on the schools around here lately because we are looking to buy a house. My son attends W.T. Cooke, he's in 2nd and went there 1st greade also. I am very happy with Cooke, also Alanton and Linkhorn are great schools. I would stay away from Birdneck and Bayside schools. Greatschools.com is a wonderful website that has tons of info on all the schools.
