Hello, I am too a Navy wife and lived in Hampton Roads for 4 years. We first lived in Vabch, but it was just too crowded for us, and also too many military traffic. We ended up moving to Chesapeake in the Great Bridge/Hickory area. It was nice. Not as crowded, and also less traffic. I would highly suggest you to look into that area as well. If you are looking at renting/buying I have an awesome real estate agent with The Real Estate Group that can help you out. If you are still keen in wanting to live in VBch then look at the Kempsville area, Oceana area is also nice, but you will have to put up with the jet noise,.ome parts of Princess Anne is nice too. Stay away from the Green Run and also Baker Rd/Haygood/Lynn Haven Mall area ( off of Virginia BEach Blvd)Hope this info helps. Email me if you are interested in getting ahold of the agent I mentioned. As for the doctor- when I lived in Vbch I went to Damn Neck Pediatrics. It's located over behind Friendly's on Damn Neck/Oceana Rd. If you are looking at Chesapeake, then I recommend Tidewater Pediatrics and Assoc. located behind Chesapeake General Hospital. Best of luck!!!!

I moved to Virginia Beach from North Carolina, and it is a very different place than it used to be (as I remembered it from my visits years ago with a college roommate) It is very crowded, crime is getting worse, and it is VERY expensive to live here. I am actually leaving to go back to North Carolina where housing is MUCH more affordable and it is a much nicer place to live all the way around, especially if you have children.
If you do decide to move here...I don't have doctors to recommend (I go to Patient First, because they're always open, and with kids, they never seem to get sick or hurt during the normal workday!), but I can recommend Dr. Dolenuck as a Denist. He is great and everyone in his office is wonderful! I would stay away from Green Run area for sure. Kempsville section seems to be ok; not too bad pricewise. Good luck!

Hi L.. There are many areas of VB that are great and there are great schools here, for the most part. I highly recommend Princess Anne Family Practice. I usually see the nurse practiconers, they are wonderful ladies! They are smart, warm, and thorough.

I would stay away from the Rosemont area & the Bayside area. Some spots in there are fine, but over all, I would not recommend. In addition, someone commented on the Chesapeake Hickory, Great Bridge area...that is also a great area.

Don't know what size house you are looking for but we have one for sale in Lake Placid (FSBO) $269,500. It is on the lake & newly update. Good luck in your search. Take care.

If your biggest concern is the schools your kids would go to then I would check out this website (www.greatschools.net) and do some research. Once you decide what school looks best then you could focus on houses in that area. I like my neighborhood but will move before my kids go to Salem Highschool. I've heard good things about Cox and Kellam. I heard Landstown has issues with gangs but that is just third hand knowledge. Your finances of course make a difference because usually the more expensive the house the better the schools. As for Drs I also like Konikoff and regular Dr Anne Ordenez out of the new Princess Anne facilities.

We moved to Virginia Beach in 1983 when my husband was a navy Lieutenant, and we love it here. I would strongly suggest the northern areas - Little neck and Great Neck. We are close to everything and we don't have the horrendous traffis snarls that they have getting to the kempsville/Chesapeake area. I work in downtown Norfolk, and occasionally have a bad traffic tie-up, but generally get to and from work in 15 to 20 minutes. We are in the little neck area.
Good Luck with your move.
