Give Me Info on Those Flat Screen Fireplaces

My husband is fairly frugal and typically only wants to spend money on our family vacations. He'll scrimp on a bunch of other things to do it. This past month we replaced our furnace, so discretionary spending is tight.

Well, once in a while he gets transfixed on what I consider to be weird stuff.

So, do any of you have those electric faux fireplaces? He wants one for our office / library. (We have no fireplace). Can you vouch that it looks nice, works well, and isn't a fire hazard? I don't mean a stove, I mean a flat heater that has a digital fire on the screen.

If you have one, please let me know how you like it.

We have one in our 3 season room to be used jn the winter. It's awesome. It keeps the room super toasty and the temp can be adjusted as needed or wanted and the fire picture is nice. Not a fire hazard at all.

My MIl has one, that we "borrowed" last year due to heating issues in our home with the Negative weather we had.

Yes, they are safe. Hers is several years old, so I am sure they have made improvements.

Good luck.

My motherinlaw has one of the Amish stoves. It warms her whole house and its not very big. She has it setting right in front of her gas log fireplace and loves it. She's had it for the last 3 years without any incidence.
Here's an interesting article about them:

Can you post a link to one at a store? I've been looking and looking for electric alternatives to heat since propane is so expensive.
