The Mother's Day after my oldest was born, I wrote a letter to my mom listing all the wonderful things I enjoyed about motherhood, still new to me then, that I would never know if she hadn't been MY mother.

Come to think of it, she's getting up there, and is not well, so I should do this again this year.

Sorry, I made your post about me, but thank you for posting it!

:)

Make a book of "40 mom Memories"?
Include pictures of the 2 of you through the years!
Rhonda--the poster is 40, hence her moms 40th Mother's Day.

ETA: I disagree with the poster who doesn't want her mothers days numbered. I think it's sweet and 40 is a milestone--for both of you.

My mom likes to spend time together.

She doe not need or want any more "Things"
So I have found a funny card and I will write a note telling her I will take her to lunch and a movie, AND she can invite her best friend along if she would like.

In the past, I have helped her potting plants, she loves a pretty garden.,
I have given her a Bird feeder with lots of bird seed and had my husband hang it for her.

One of the things she still wears very summer is the "Helen Kaminsky Sun Hat" we gave her about 20 years ago. Imagine at the time it was $75.00 with my discount it was $60.00 and my sister and I had to split the price, but it still looks brand new!

I had a custom flag designed for their country home. I had a cute door mat made for their country home ( do not get me wrong, this is like a cabin/shack in a pretty primitive piece of land.

I have had a car cooler monogrammed, so she could cart her own food and drinks. When we were growing up , we were never allowed to purchase snacks or drinks when out and about.

Happy Mothers Day!

I think an experience is best!
Like taking her to lunch somewhere different.
Hire a limo & drive to a local winery or beautiful park for lunch.
Local wine tasting?
Take her to a nearby older town if you have one, shop, eat & get ice
cream.
Have a necklace made of her name. They make the person's name in
cursive out of silver. Find them on Amazon or Etsy.
Name a star after her then get her a silver star charm for a necklace.
Take her to brunch, give a list of 40 things you are grateful to her for (fun
holiday memories, having you, make Christmas fun for you, picnics or
whatever memories you have.).
A monogrammed ring.
Take her to the movies (it doesn't have to be on that day).
Go paint pottery with her or you go paint something quickly w/a personal
message on the bottom.
An inexpensive jewelry armoire that stands on 4 legs & looks like a mini
nightstand.
Make her a basket of 40 things personal mug, dark chocolate, btl of wine if she drinks, 2 pretty wine glasses, piece of art you create on a mini canvas, costume jewelry of bracelets or earrings, book, scratch offs, frame, hand towels, fuzzy socks, flavored coffee etc.
Email her friends to email you personal messages you can print out &
put in a little binder for her.
Small wood trinket box w/40 messages you write on them in there.
Take her to a tea place.
Go shopping at the mall & buy her something there.
Take out a personal ad in the paper (a small one to keep cost down).
Decorate the outside of her house for her birthday (banner, balloons).
Hire a chef from a cooking school to come make you & her a fancy dinner
Take her on a train ride to a nearby town for dinner.

What does your mother enjoy, start there. For me, gifting is about making the recipient happy, not necessarily about what the occassion is targeting.

A photo book of you and your mom each of those 40 years? Could do one photo for each year to keep it simple. The photo book sites like Shutterfly can do rush orders.

I hit 25 last year, no, 26 because he was 25, he is 26 this year so 27... Anyway if my kids numbered them that would be the biggest ungift ever!! I am 99.999999% sure if my kids decided after my son's 39th birthday to say happy 40 I would hurt them. If they did it after his 40th birthday I would make fun of their lack of applying math skills.

Now if this is something you have done every year, carry on....

It drives my kids nuts but I want nothing for mother's day. They are good kids living happy lives, that is all I ever wanted.

Ohh I like the photo book idea though....might keep that for Christmas suggestions...

My mom loves stuff from Etsy. Customized, more unique things.
That's what I did this year for her.

You might try checking there and just doing a search on Mother's Day, to see if anything fits with your mom.
