Hey Ladies!! Like so many other women, I've had horrible side effects from my Mirena IUD. I've had it since december, and it seems like its only getting worse. My appointment is next Thursday, and I'm not sure what to expect. I'd love to hear from anyone who has recently had it removed. Was it painful? Did you need to take time off work? How long did it take for you body to get back to normal? How long did it take before your first cycle?

I have not had any problems with my IUD. I have had it now for about 4 months. What are the side effects you have? I am nervous about getting mine removed. My friend had one and she said it does hurt when removed and she did not get a cycle till 2 months later.

I had mine out about a year ago. I was still holding a lot of "baby weight" from having my daughter. The dr. said that was not what it was from but I dropped 10 lb's shortly after it was removed. Mine was jammed in there so it took longer than "normal" to get out and there was some cramping. Lol, a glass of wine would have definitely taken the edge off! I didn't have to miss any work for it. I don't remember the next period though. I feel much better since having it removed. Good Luck!

Someone told me to have a glass (or two) of wine before going in to have it removed. It wasn't as bad as I thought, before I knew it, the IUD was removed. The pain was very minimal. I think I might have had some cramping and don't recall how long it took for my next cycle to come. I had problems with mine too, infection of some sort and it was messing with my cycles. I was glad to have it out. Good luck!

for me it hurt less coming out than going in. I had minor cramping a few hours later, and my period started a couple of days later.

The removal was a breeze compared to the experience of actually having it in. It took about 2 seconds for her to pull it out and the pain was bad, but again, only for 2 seconds. I was fine after that. My period started 1 week later and was really heavy. I hear every woman is different in things getting back to normal. I had some major hormone swings and cramping for the next month or 2. But definitely better than having the IUD in. Good luck!

Hi M., I had my IUD removed last year... it was totally painless. Not at all like having it put in! I actually didn't even realize the dr had it out until she told me, the only thing I felt was the uncomfortable, freezing cold, clamp things that hold you open for an exam.

I got my Mirena out recently about one month ago. I now sleep a whole lot better. I've got a sonogram on Thursday to see if my cyst is gone (I think it was related to the Mirena). I felt better immediately. No pain while my Dr. took it out. It was so much better taking it out than putting it in. I did have some bleeding after it was taken out. I have gotten a full period yet, still waiting. No, you don't time off from work. Having my body get back to normal took a few days to get back to normal.
