Hi ladies,

Do you have a french door fridge? Do you love it or hate it? What do you love about yours and why? What brand is it? We are starting to look at fridges and I am sooooo in love with these french door ones. They are so nice inside and have tons of room. We have a family of 5 and I need something with more room and more organization. Well, the main reason is that our fridge is pooping out on us more often than not. So, in the next few months, we will be taking the plunge. I just like hearing peoples experiences with things like this.

Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I love mine. The only 2 drawbacks have been that with the freezer on the bottom my kids are too short to get most things for themselves yet (my oldest is almost 9 but she is short for her age) and if the ice container gets too full it will sometimes get jammed when I go to pull the freezer drawer out...and sometimes pieces have gotten broken trying to pull it out. But tons of fridge space, I haven't run out of room in 2 years (we are a family of 6).

We bought one about six months ago. I LOVE the French door portion. Tons of space and it's great to only have to open one door to get something (energy savings).

My only dislike would be the bottom drawer freezer. I don't hate it, but I do M. having a regular one on top. The drawer slide has already broken, so it's more work to pull it out. Been so busy, we haven't had time to look into getting it fixed. It's just not as easy to see things as in the top freezer and you have to get everything just so or it won't close. It also doesn't fit as much as a top freezer. Again, don't hate it, but I'm still adjusting to it. On the plus side, it's nice for the kids to be able to get their own fruit popsicles.

My big tip is to NOT get stainless steel. Kicking myself over that move. Super high maintenance ... every L. touch on it shows. Look for the stainless steel LOOK (not the real thing) that's smudge-free. My parents just found a model that's like that and theirs stays clean.

We love ours. Be careful though if you don't have a garage deep freezer, as the bottom drawer freezer is a L. awkward to deal with. It isn't bad, but just a L.... awkward...from what you are accustomed to. Things will be on the "bottom" and you won't know they are there, lol. And things will slide off (pizza) BEHIND the drawer and get beneath it(frozen Lean cuisine), lol. But up top, oh wow! LOVE it. Plenty of door shelf space. Plenty of room for drink containers/milk. Plenty of vegetable/beer drawer space. Platter space! Yay!
Love it. And it's more energy efficient b/c the freezer is on the bottom. No more bending looking for the stinky leftover forgotten at the bottom in the back. I can see EVERYTHING.

I have had an LG French door fridge since April. I had a side-by-side before, which I grew to hate. I love the French door model! I like the space and the wide shelves. I also like the bottom freezer, although I know not everyone does. I think it's easier to see things and stay organized than with the side by side. We don't buy large quantities of food for the freezer and we have only two kids so the bottom works out just fine for us. I would have preferred a model without an ice and water dispenser, but my husband insisted on having one. If you are going to have problems with a fridge it is often going to be the ice and water. It also takes up more space. We went with the LG because it was a new "space saver" model that makes the ice and water feature very efficient and doesn't take up as much space as in some of the other models. We got white because our stove and microwave are white, but also because I didn't want to deal with the handprints, smudges etc. that you can get with stainless. Oh, the only real problem was that refrigerators have gotten bigger and taller since our house was built almost 18 years ago. We had to have a carpenter move the cabinets above the fridge to accomodate the new one. Unless you have a newer house, measure your space very carefully before selecting a new refrigerator. This is a common problem in "older" homes.

We bought an LG several years ago and love it. I especially like having the bottom freezer. I purposely got one without the water dispenser. I prefer having our reverse osmosis water purifier.

I have a Samsung and I love it. It is so cool and industrial looking. Plus, I never like those fridges with the freazer on one side and the fridge on the other split down the middle. There never seemed enough room. No problem now! Plenty of room inside and I like the way the freezer pulls out on the bottom. The stainless steel is more expensive but the shiny black ones look nice too.

We have a Kenmore Elite with the french doors and we love it. We've had it for about 6 years now. We looked at several different ones but finally decided that this layout was best for us. The other ones that we looked at with the freezer on the top and then the freezer on the bottom didn't have the automatic water spout or ice spout. That may be no big deal for some people but for us it is crucial. I don't like dealing with ice trays and don't want to reach into an ice maker each time we need ice. My husband likes cold drinks so he is contantly getting ice and it is so much easier to just push a button than to reach into an ice maker bin and get ice, plus it's cleaner. Also my frig is usually full of stuff so I didn't want to have a brita water jug in it so it helps to have the filtered water spout on the freezer door. It also makes it easy for my kids to get water whenever they need it. It does have a lock on the ice and water spout so if you are worried about your kids making a mess, you can always lock them with the push of a button.
One of my favorite features on our fridge door is on the water spout. IT has measurements you can use. SO if you want water in ounces, cups, etc, just select the option you want and it will automatically pour out just the right amount. That comes in really handy when refilling water bottles (the spout rotates and can be moved out) or measuring for a recipe or baby bottle or whatever. My husband and I loved that feature when we decided on the fridge and use it constantly to this day. Now I'm not sure we could do without it.

Good luck with your decision. I've heard great stuff about the other layouts in fridges but it all depends on what's important to you.

I really like mine. I actually like the freezer on the bottom. Really like it, and feel like I have more space in there. I do keep it mostly organized though. Mine also has the ice/water feature on the outside of the door. However, I would not ever recommend Samsung. It is what we bought. When we bought it, I didn't realize how new it was to the market. All the reviews online were fabulous. Well, now you will find out that the ice maker is notorious for breaking and you pretty much can't get it fixed. So, we buy ice and pour it in the ice maker drawer. Oh, well.

I've got a Whirlpool, the biggest Lowes had. We did NOT get the water thing on the outside because....I'm not sure about that. How clean is the water, is it just basically cold tap water, how would I clean the tubes or whatever over the years, etc...gross. We just drink our filtered water. There is NOTHING negative that I can say about our french doors, freezer on bottom! I had no preference of what fridge I got, and thought a freezer on bottom would be strange, but my husband is tall and said it makes sense to have the things you use everyday closer to eye level and the freezer (stuff you don't use as often) down lower. I was just like "whatever, get what you want" but WOW I love it so much! It's huge, spacious, works well, easy to organize and see everything at a glace, and quiet. The freezer does have an icemaker, the drawer works just fine and we do use it a couple times every day. I keep it very organized, not stuff thrown around, so it's not difficult to go through at all (and to me, at 5'2", it would be more of a pain to try to see whats at the back of the top shelf if the freezer was on top). Keep it organized and it's not different than any other freezer, except it's on bottom. It does actually seem BIGGER than the freezers that are on top (and SOOOOOOOO much better than the ones on side). Can't recommend it enough.

We have a french door fridge and I am not a fan. Our old fridge was a side by side and I loved it! With this one, my kids (the younger ones, anyway) cant get their own stuff and if anything get shoved in the back, it gets forgotten about. This one doesn't hold as much as our old one, either (the old one was 30 cubic feet). It has taken a long time to get used to...

The freezer is great. It is nice and deep and hold a lot.

We have one that we bought six years ago. We really like it. The only thing I don't like is that the one we bought didn't have the icemaker/water dispenser on the outside. I don't remember seeing any like that back then, though. But I HIGHLY recommend buying one of the ones that has it on the outside. I really like it otherwise. I think ours is a Maytag, but I'm not positive. I like how wide it is and that you have more space for really big items. I like the set up of it all. It's just a really nice fridge!

If you get one, just be aware that the LG brand (of any appliance) has been known to have not-so-good customer service. A lot of people get frustrated over it. We had a repair guy out and he said that he can repair any of our appliances except our LG stove/oven. He would love to be able to, but LG make it impossible. We prefer to buy other brands.

My friend has one... she said that she doesn't like the fact that if you have something bigger to put in you have to open a second door... so she's always shifting stuff from hand to hand to do that.

We are getting one in about 2 weeks. I did NOT want to get water from inside the refrigerator OR have anything in the door...just something else to go wrong. I went to Lowe's website, looked for the size that we wanted, looked up all the brands Lowe's carried, read the comments, and wrote down the numbers of the refrigerators we were and were NOT interested in. When we were shown a refrigerator, I looked on my sheet to see if I had already eliminated it or not. It really helped and the salesperson was impressed that I had pros and cons numbers...it is funny how your mind can forget when you are trying to make a decision.
P.S. I prefer the single door but my husband wanted the french doors, if it will keep peace in the kitchen, I am for it. :)

We have a Kenmore. It is actually 2 separate pieces. A full size refrigerator on one side and a full size freezer on the other. It's like a giant side-by-side refrigerator. Of course, you have to have the space for it to fit. It is no more expensive than one of the nicer French door ones. We knew when we rebuilt our house after Hurricane Ike, that we wanted a full size freezer inside (along with our refrigerator), previously it was in the garage. We looked and looked for something we liked. This set had everything except a water dispenser. We are only a family of 3, but we like to entertain, so it works out perfectly. Since we were in the process of rebuilding at the time, I watched them on the Sears web-site until they went on sale. We got each piece for $864.

You might try the Sears outlet also, they have a web-site. They do scratch-n-dents, returns, discontinues, etc.

I hate mine. My freezer is so small, I can hardly store anything in it. We have a top of the line Kitchen Aid that was built in when we moved. If I had my choice, I would get one with the French Doors on top that is all fridge, and a pull out freezer on the bottom. I had a freezer on the bottom in my old house and loved it. It was so deep, I could put so much food in it and I didn't have to worry about reaching in to the back of a freezer to get something.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my French Door! I lived with, and HATED my side by side for 7 years! I couldn't wait to get rid of it!

I have heard that people don't like the freezer on the bottom, but we have a large deep freeze in the garage. So I guess I don't see it as limited space.

I love ours, it's a Samsung, but there are many brands that have similar features. Ours is similar to the Kenmore elite (but less expensive). When we went looking for a new fridge this was the only one we found in black (all our appliances are black) that had all the features we want. We have ice and water in the door, plus a second ice maker in the freezer. I love having the freezer drawer on the bottom and the french doors above, it seems to have so much more space that way. My mother in law had one that was french door, freezer on one side and fridge on the other and you could barely fit anything in the fridge, especially if you were entertaining. I've never had any problems with the ice maker in ours.

Definitely shop around, don't let the sales people talk you into anything. It's much easier if you know what you want when you go to buy it!

I can't have a side-by-side because the space is to small, but my friend has one and says definitely go with the bottom freezer so you get wider shelves in the fridge. Otherwise, you can't get a pizza box in the fridge.
