Free Cruise from Galveston to Cozumel.....is This True??

Yesterday I received a recorded message on my cell phone saying that I had won 2 free tickets on a 5 day/4 night cruise to Cozumel. I listened to the entire message and it asked for me to leave my name and my spouses name and confirm that I could show proof we were married and a live person would be calling me back shortly. Yesterday afternoon I received a call from a lady named Heidi who said that it was true I would receive 2 complimetary tickets plus a $300 gas card. There was no obligation to buy anything. All I had to do is come out for about an hour with a group of other couples and listen to their spill on travel packages and even if we purchased nothing the 2 tickets would still be given to us. She said their goal was for us to spread the word or maybe use them in the future.

What do you ladies think???? Has anyone else received this call or gone to the meeting and received the tickets???

What can I do next?

These are gimmicks to get you to buy time share(s). You will sit in several meetings w/ high pressuring sales men/women to get you to sign the dotted line. The trips are usually not fake, but they do come w/ their own price per se.

Take care,

I read the other responses and agree with most. If you decide to go and are NOT interested in buying the timeshare or travel club, BE SURE you stick to your guns in saying "no" to all the different people they may send in to try to get you to commit. If by chance you are interested in a timeshare, look around on Craig's list, eBay, newspaper, etc. to see what they are going for on the secondary market before you go to the presentation. And if you decide to buy on secondary market, be sure to check that the owner is current with the maintenance fees due yearly. Depending on the size of the unit and location, these range from $400 to $1000+ yearly. It is not exactly a cheap way to travel, but for some people it works well and you have a condo with kitchen, etc. instead of a hotel room.

As for the freebie, it is legit, but as someone said, you pay a price in your time and patience. Plus, they sometimes black out certain dates or seasons for the trip. And, for cruises, there usually are port charges. Check on all that and if it fits for you, have fun. If not, stay away.

Hi T.,

I am a long time lurker here but wanted to respond to your question. My husband and I just did this about a month ago. I actually said yes to going to listen to it. While it is not a time share, they are selling something. They are selling a membership to buy travel at wholesale. It is really a good deal if you have thousands to give up front. I am curious, is the location in Irving?? We did get the $300 gas voucher but in order to get it you have to sign up with all kinds of websites and take all kinds of surveys and then they will send you the money. I did not do it because I didnt want my name and email out there that much. Also, yes we did walk away with a free vacation but with everything free there are some catches. We were most interested in the Galveston cruise because we could drive there. Well at the very end of the voucher it says you cant leave from the state you live it so you would have to fly somewhere else to cruise. If you have free miles, it might not be bad. Also, you have to send them$50 per person for a processing fee and then it states that they could cancel the trip at any given time. You have to give them options of dates and ports that you would like and they will let you know within a month of travel. There were just too many fishy things about it so again, we just didnt even do it. But, I will say that we were really interested in the membership but we just didnt have the up front cash. They do however bargain with you and you can talk the cost down. They also offered to send the first 2 couples that signed up to Hawaii, all expenses paid for 10 days. So, I dont think it was a total waste of time, we got some good information but didnt really use the freebies. We opted for the cruise but I wish we would have asked for the 2 round trip tickets, there might not be as many strings attached! Good luck, I hope I was a little helpful! Oh, and was it Infinity Travel?

Hi T.,
I just got a call like that on my cell phone saying I filled something out at the State Fair. I was thinking back in Oct and you are just now callng me? Anyway she did want my husband and I to come out to Lake Tawakoni to listen about a time share and then we could get a 4 day cruise to Cozumel where we would only have to pay the port fees of $179 per person. I told my sister about it and she said that her husband had done that once and when he said no he didn't want to buy the timeshare, they sent another salesguy out to try to get him to do it. He told that guy no and another one came out, so on and so forth. So I guess you'd need to be prepared to stick to your answer of NO I do not want to buy into your timeshare but I DO want my vacation heehee! I'm sure it's legit, just to get the vacation you have to go through a lot of junk. There is probably some other fees you'd incur as well, maybe taxes or something on the cruise. Good luck!

My husband and I got sucked into this salespitch on our honeymoon of all places. Like the others said they are high pressure salespeople, DO NOT sign up for a timeshare...no matter how good of a deal they say it is, it is not. We (I) didn't stick to our guns, I wanted to say no, but my husband thought it sounded fantastic, so we signed on the dotted line anyway. Needless to say, we have never used our timeshare and nearly 6 years later are still fighting payments on it. The up front price sounds okay, but when you go to try and use a timeshare they don't tell you about all of the additional fees you owe besides the monthly payment.

Anyway, point is, its not worth the "free" trip (which like she said will still have $200 or so in fees per person) to be tortured the way they do in these pitches. They are relentless!

I agree with the other posts. My husband & I did this about 10 years ago. These people were awful. We kept saying NO and told them various reasons, one of which was our 'not so good' financial situation. They practically yelled at us & degrated us for getting in such a bad financial situation at our age. I could not believe the things they said to us. Anyway all we won a stupid little bicycle for our son.
