My family is looking to fly to Europe, preferably Italy or France. We are going over Thanksgiving for a week. We are trying to save as much money as we can. When is the cheapest time to buy? Any suggestions?

the best time to buy is the soonest you know you are going.

there are some that will say "last minute deals" but then you might get screwed. If you know NOW - book it NOW!! book with an airline that will compensate you if the rate changes (some do - I don't know anymore though!!)

Have fun!! I would suggest Belgium or Germany - there's much to do!!

You'll be going in the of season, so that is the cheapest time to go.
I would buy tickets relatively soon. The airfare will already be at it's lowerst due to the season. The prices won't really start to go escalate until about a month before you go.

Have fun!
I've been to both countries 2x, and they're both wonderful!

Don't go US Air!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fly Delta or anyone else!!!! Sorry one hour on the tarmac in Rome another hour on the tarmac in Charleston, missed connect by one minute!!!!!!

There is no cheap time to buy. Sometimes it is better if you buy a year in advance because you lock in the price while fuel keeps going up.

French really are rude....just saying.

British air is my favorite way to fly international for 3 reasons:

1) Using a BA card, you buy 1 ticket and you get a free companion ticket. Yup!

2) Economy Plus, when bought far enough out is only $50-100 more per ticket. RECLINING SEATS (like a lazyboy, with footrest). Economy Plus also automatically enters you into their miles program, and those miles equal free upgrades and free tickets FAST when jumping the pond or crossing the pole. Economy Plus is like OUR business class (their business class is like our First, and their First... well, if you ever have 16k per ticket, you can tell me what it's like)

3) Best. Coach. Ever. when you haven't booked far enough out to snag cheap E+ seating

We had to do a lot of shuffling to get our family to the UK for various reasons. Things that impacted the price - willingness to do a layover and when the ticket was bought. It was NOT cheaper to wait but the sks' flights were less $ because they had layovers. DH, DD and I did not. Sometimes travel agencies get the best deal, and sometimes not. One downside is that you lose some control over your booking if you go through an agent. I will not be utilizing an agent again.

American Airlines was OK. I've also flown British Air and Virgin and liked them both.
