First World Problems - Santa Barbara,CA

Last week someone wrote about the Buddhist housecleaner asking for Good Friday off and someone pointed out that it was a first world problem. Here is mine for the school break:
Crowded at the pool and all the cabanas have been rented out. Does anyone else have an annoying thing that is trivial?

What can I do next?

I agree with B. And I thought it was rude to call this issue with the nanny a first world problem. (I haven't looked back to see who said it, so I'm not making this personal about whoever wrote it...)

A nanny is like DAYCARE. If the nanny doesn't come, working parents have to make alternative arrangements, and that might mean paying someone else to watch the kids, and pay double. I don't know why someone would be dismissive of it, as if it's not important. And trying to come up with a solution that works for the family, and NOT just for the nanny isn't something to fuss at the parent for...

Yeah, I do see some rather trivial problems mentioned here sometimes, but unless it's a troll or a SWH that's screaming at people, I don't usually diss the question as if it's not important enough to ask (well, except for "I had unprotected sex. Could I be pregnant?" Especially when the poster asks over and over, grrrr....)

I tried to save a snapping turtle from a friend's pond yesterday because he was eating her ducks; I have a pond full of turtles. On the way home, he flew out of the laundry basket that he was riding in in the back of my truck. The poor guy in the car next to me waved for me to roll down my window. He looked completely freaked out and yelled, "It flew out!" I doubt the poor turtle survived. I was going 65 on the highway. He was a very large snapper - much larger than a frying pan. I hope he didn't hit the car behind me. That would have been shocking to them, I'm sure! The craziest part is that the laundry basket stayed in exactly the same position. I have no idea what happened to make the turtle fly without tumping the basket over. My son says it was karma because the turtle was eating all of those ducks.

This isn't a classic first world problem, but it was something that was worth sharing. :)

well - brand new luxury car and a chip in the windshield already... oh no.

Have to say the 1st world problem comments to the man posting annoyed me. Sure he's lucky to have help but we also don't know his situation. Maybe he's a widower and is at work 10-12 hours a day and needs help maintaining his house for his children. Or maybe he's just lucky and well off financially. Regardless, no one wants to be taken advantage of. My employers are fabulously wealthy. That doesn't mean they should give me extra paid days off whenever I want. Or, does everyone tip 50% when they go out to eat? After all, we are all lucky every time we eat in a restaurant. We should over tip. Does everyone tip workers at the grocery store? They're not paid that well either and we are so lucky to be able to shop for food. We should give them extra money. Just didn't seem fair to single him out...

I made a huge baked ziti as part of an Easter dinner yesterday. I didn't take any because there's always a lot left over so I have it a couple times during the week. Several family members (at my prompting) took home leftovers and apparently they took all the ziti leaving me with a lot of ham. Not a big fan of ham but now I'm stuck eating it as leftovers this week with zero baked ziti.

I don't know - something about the phrase 'first world problem' just irks me.
If it annoys you, even if it is petty - it doesn't really matter what world you're from.
It's just as annoying of your mule balks or your car stalls.
I don't see why any problem needs defining in such a way.

Sick of my furniture arrangement and trying to figure out a new look. There is about 1 piece of furniture too many, and I don't want to/can't get rid of any of it. How's that for first world problems? I'm frustrated by having too much stuff. Ugh.
If you hadn't posted this question, I doubt I would have mentioned my complaint to anyone. At least not today.

My robot vacuum is dead so I had to haul out my non-robot vacuum.

The back hatch door on my brand new car is slightly stiffer to close than the back door on my previous car.

The water in the pool was chilly, so I didn't stay in for as long as I wanted yesterday.

My husband is still asleep so I have to make the decision to either a) wait until he wakes up to bring me my coffee in bed, or b) get up and pour it out of the coffee maker (with timer so it's already made) myself.

Waiting to have eye exam for new sunglasses and doctor is now 8 min late! It's a LensCrafters. Not like a doctor who has an emergency to deal with. So I am annoyed. But I know I'm lucky to get glasses at all.

Now 9 minutes late.

The baby slept until 10 this morning, so I was super engorged by the time he woke up. Between an allergist appointment, errands, school pick-up, and dance lessons, dinner, baths, and bedtimes, I won't have time to pump until I go to bed tonight. I overproduce as it is, so there's no way he can eat enough to use up the extra, so I'm stuck with huge boobs and feeling really full all day.

I enjoyed this question, I play What's the Phrase too and have seen many funny answers. I had never heard of first world problems and didn't have any idea that it was silly stuff that people who are really struggling to just live don't have to face.

So my first world problem today:

I had to buy Whopper brand Malted Milk Ball Eggs. My favorite candy in the world is Brachs Malted Milk Eggs. The shell has a totally different flavor and the malted milk egg in the center has a super strong malted milk ball flavor. I just love them.

The Whopper brand doesn't even compete but Brachs doesn't make their brand of them anymore.

So pooh on them.

There's a whole category of these on the game app "What's the Phrase" (like Wheel of Fortune but you can choose the categories). Of course I can't think of most of them right now!

"Sand Blew Onto My Beach Towel"
"Not enough charging stations at Starbucks"
"Sunscreen leaves finger streaks on my iPhone screen"
"Can't stand the music the massage therapist was playing"
"My walk in closet is so disorganized"
"I'm out of dishwasher detergent"
"I'm out of wine"
"The TV and the computer router and the automatic garage door openers don't work during a power failure. What am I supposed to do with my time?"

I have a relative who never, ever has her kids (or her husband or herself) send thank you notes because a) she doesn't have note cards, b) the kids have too many activities and c) she has to buy stamps just for that because she pays all her bills on line. Boo hoo. After a few years, we stopped sending any gifts!

A Canadian Senator was recently audited. While reviewing her travel expenses she was questioned about submitting receipts for breakfast when breakfast had been served on her flight which had already been expensed. She responded that she shouldn't be expected to eat "ice cold Camembert and broken crackers."

My Netflix is really slow. My kids have trouble getting Wifi in their bedroom. My husband bought a big truck and I hate it. I've got tons of first world problems. It helps to put my problems into perspective. If I have time to worry about first world problems then life must be pretty good.

I'm frustrated managing both of my kid's dance partnerships. One is a ballroom dancer, one an ice dancer. The parents are in denial about ability or showmanship capabilities while entertaining. I'm not sure it's all worth it sometimes.

However, getting a bad sunburn is a distinct possibility without a cabana. That is potentially painful and something that can ruin several days.

a member of the school board where I work tried to be understanding that not all people in his town are well to do, saying "some of them are driving 7 yr old cars" So of course they don't want to raise taxes which could possible happen if the teachers get a raise big enough to pay for their health benefits increase. Cuz of those poor people "who drive 7 yr old cars"
and we teachers are sitting there thinking, I wish my car was only 7 yrs old.

I really needed this this morning!! Thanks!! I had a disappointment yesterday that literally drove me to cry and laugh at the same time. It was such a first world problem and that was why I was laughing while sobbing about it. (Not ready to share yet).

Now I have to go take a hot shower and go to work...gosh I hope the water gets hot enough!! ;-)

Made an online purchase last week. Annoyed that it didn't ship until this morning.

EDIT:

I have another one: made banana bread using a recipe that is not the healthiest (one stick of butter and lots of sugar). Because my daughter wouldn't eat, my husband gave her banana bread for breakfast, snack, and lunch while I was at work. Ugh!

my ongoing technology woes. my mac mini continues to burp and fart and do all the things the apple geniuses insist macs will never do.
but worse, my internet streaming is spotty and sometimes doesn't work at all. it infuriates me, then amuses me that something so first world can wreck my mood. i generally look at it as a noodge from the gods to pick up a book.
