So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your ideas. What I am going to do/did is took a picture of my daughter with the letters D A D. She sat between the D's and held the A in her hands. It was an absolute blast for me to do. My husband and I are getting into professional photography, so this gave me some personal experience. Again, thank you for all the help.

Hi J.,
Buy some wooden letters that spell DAD or DADDY and take photos of your child holding the letters - holding each letter separately. Put them together in a picture frame for him. I did this for my husband's first fathers day and he loved it.

Family fun has some really cute ideas, also try some of the other family and parent magazine websites. Also do forget a cut picture of you and your child is always nice.

Hope this helps

I am a photographer so the first thing off the top of my head is to get a picture done of you and your child, him and your child, or even a family photo. then to frame it, perhaps something for his office at work, or a wall at home. or even scrapbook it into an album.

you could also take the pictures you have from when your child was born until now and scrapbook a mini album for fathers day as another gift idea. -A.

I saw this on one of my friends shirts. His wife took a regular t-shirt and dipped his sons feet in paint and pressed them along the shirt in a walking pattern. I dont know if your child is too old for that and will just squirm with the paint, but it was the cutest shirt! Hand prints would be cute too but they are much harder to do!
Good luck

I guess it's not all that creative, but...Last year was my husband's first Father's Day and I bought a double picture frame and put two pics of our newborn daughter in it. He really liked it!

My husband noticed that when he puts our son to bed most of the bedtime books were about mommy and child. (Our son is now 2, but we have been reading him bedtime books since he was an infant). This year I bought my husband some books that are all about Daddies and their children. My son is going to give them to my husband as something they can share together. Some of the books I found that I really liked are, I Love My Daddy by Collins, How Many Kisses Do You Want Tonight? by Bajaj, The Very Best Daddy of All by Bauer, and Daddy Hugs 123 by Katz.

Do you live somewhere that you can plant a tree? You can see it grow as your child does. My husband is really hard to buy for! I bought him a cedar porch swing last year and he really loves it as we come home from work and take the kids outside and relax on the swing for a little while. Not exactly conventional but it's a good excuse to relax and spend some cuddle time with the kids.

My husband's first father's day happened to be on my daughter's first birthday! How perfect! I took her to get her photos done without him knowing. I picked my favorite in a Sepia tone. I then did a handprint on a cream colored cardstock. I went to Joann, Etc and purchased a small brown shadow box and put in her picture, her handprint and then embellished with some really neat sayings I found in their scrapbooking/card making area. They had some neat metal statements about fatherhood and father-daughters. It came out so much better than I expected!
