Make him a tie out of a cloth diaper? Just kidding.

I had to write that because my daughter insisted on buying her daddy ties for the longest time! What a crack up! He hardly ever wears a tie, but when he does, it's usually one from her!

I know that there are some serious ideas from others.

I made a photo movie set to music with Window Movie Maker - it's really pretty easy - and my husband loved it last year.

There's a ceramic store in Southlake called Sunshine Glaze, www.sunshineglaze.com. Put an impression of your daughters hand or foot on a mug or plate. We've done several pieces with my daughter's handprint and footprint, gifts for me, my husband, grandparents. I put my daughter's footprint on a big plate and made a reindeer out of her footprint for my mom for christmas. I made tiny snowmen out of her handprint on an ornament. I have several things with her thumbprints on it, ladybugs, butterflys, bees. The first plate we did was just her handprint/name/year. You could make handprint flowers, angels (her handprints being the wings) with daddy's angel written on it. The ladies there are super nice and give you ideas or you can do the imprint and they will paint it for you.
We've been going a few years, my daughter is 6, and she loves to paint, and we absolutly love the time together, something y'all can do together in the future when she starts to paint:)

E.,
You could create a "Daddy & daughter" photo frame. Just get frame that has several spots for photos 6-9 or so and fill each with a favorite picture of just the two of them. In the center spot you can even put a card or make something that says Happy Father's day/Daddy daughter photos so everyone can tell the group of pictures is a special dedication to dad. I now have a wall of photos dedicated just to father and son, one for each year and both love it!

Hi E.:

I found a great book for my 3 year old to give Daddy for Father's Day. It's called "A Fathers Legacy- Your life story in your own words". It asks questions for the father to answer, thus giving your child her Daddy's life story. I found mine at Hallmark for $12.99, but, I'm sure you could find it, or something like it with a different title at Barnes & Noble or Borders.

I hope you had a wonderful 1st Mothers Day! Congratulations!

For my husband's first Father's Day, I got one of those kits from Babies 'R Us, where you put their hand or foot print in the plastic stuff that hardens, and put it on the mat next to a photo frame, and I had a professional pic in the frame. 7 years later it is one of our treasured pictures hanging on the living room wall!

I'm not certain that Babies 'R Us carries them anymore, since it was 7 years ago, but I bet Hobby Lobby does, or you could order online, or even sort of do yourself with ink instead of a casting!

Hey E.!!! Last year was my hubbys first Father's Day... So for him I went through all my pictures I had of him and my son. I printed them all off and went to Joanns and bought a cute lil photo album that was actually in the "Father's day" section. It has spaces under the pictures to write lil messages. So I wrote lil messages under them and wrote them as if they came from my son!!!

The second thing I did was I went to Joanns and found a lil 3 piece frame kit that you put together and add photos. It turned out cute also.

Or you could also (if you have the time :) ) take your daughter and have her pics taken just especially for your husband.

I know all my ideas are with pictures but honestly my husband loves his gifts that have pictures in them. He enjoys looking back at all of them.

Good luck!

Along the lines of the previous posts, just slightly different... they have stepping stone kits at Hobby Lobby where you mix the "concrete" mixture yourself and can make impressions in it before it dries. We did this last year for my husband's first Father's Day with her hand and foot print, and he still talks about it when he goes outside near the grill and sees it in flower bed. I will probably do the same thing this year.

Similar to your other advice...my son was about the same age as your daughter before my husband's first Father's Day and we went the picture route as well. Without my husband's knowledge, I took my son to have his first professional portraits done (not super fancy or expensive...just went to the studio at Penney's). My husband was so surprised (and thrilled) when he received his gift...the pictures were great and they are still some of our favorities four years later.

Anything that includes a picture of your sweet daughter will be perfect, like a picture frame that says "World's Greatest Dad", "My Heart Belongs to Daddy", etc. There's still time for you to make one if you can't find it ready-made somewhere.

Congratulations to you and your husband and Happy First Mother's Day (belated) to you!

Warm regards,

M.

My oldest is now 10, and every year, one of the things we o for Father's Day is make a t-shirt for him. Print several pictures of your child onto transfer paper and iron them on the t-shirt. Add hand prints with fabric paint (we learned to spray the hands with just a touch of cooking spray before applying paint - it helps with cleaning their hands easily and doesn't effect the print or t-shirt). Then I use the paint comes in a bottle with a fine tip and add a cute saying "Best daddy...", "We love daddy..."

With one child, they can do two handprints. If you have more children, each does one print.

I always try to make sure that one of the photos I use has a pic of daddy with the kids.

NOTE: a large piece of paper (newsprint, wrapping paper, grocery bag, etc.) between the front and back of the t-shirt while doing paint, so it doesn't bleed through to the back - lesson learned years ago :)

Good luck!

On my husbands first fathers' day I started a photo album of all pictures of just the two of them. Each year I add to the album.

Hello, I was in your shoes last year. My daughter was born in mid March.

I took pictures of her myself during the day was Dad was at work then took them to Walgreens. Had some coasters made and a mouse pad. These are two things he uses a lot. But they have several really great items to put picturs on.

He loved his gift and comments on them often.

Now I have to figure out Dad's day number 2.
Thank you for getting us all thinking about it now!

I didn't read all your posts so I'm not sure if someone has already suggested it but a friend of mine went on snapfish.com and made a hard back book of pictures of her daughter and her husband and gave it to him for fathers day. It was really neat. All you have to do is upload the pictures, lay them out the way you want them in the book, and they make it and ship it to you!

Such GREAT ideas! My husband will celebrate his 1st Father's Day this year as well. He just had his birthday in April and we made a card for him with our daughter's hand and foot printed on it...Happy Birthday, Daddy! See my Hand...See my Foot...turned out cute...then I took a picture of them with it and will add to our Family Calendar we do each year as Christmas presents...everyone's favorite gift...one year I didn't get around to making it and my mother really missed having it...so did I...she said she looks forward to that each year...it's a fun way to reflect back on the prior year...something we will always have...esp. if I never get to the scrapbooks I keep planning to do..ha!

I did a collage this past week from Walgreen's online of my grandmother's 90th birthday party pictures we had in Houston...was super easy...then I mailed it to her in an 8x10 for her actual birthday this past Wednesday...cheap, easy, and something she will treasure for years...could be done for Father's Day, or any milestone...the photo books are great these days...upload your photos, then have them printed in a hard bound book...like so many of your other posts, I'm a fanatic for photos...they grow up so fast - I have a 14 year old son now as well...capture the moments while you can!

I have a couple of ideas that make great gifts as well. I am a photographer, so of course I believe that pictures are the best gift...however SPECIFICALLY slide shows set to music (on DVD) are always a big hit. Also, photo collages are really cool too. I am offering a super deal on both of these items if you are interested. For a sample of my collages click here: http://schwartzphotos.smugmug.com/gallery/8189317_kaCoc/1... And for a sample of some slide shows, go here: http://www.photodex.com/sharing/viewalbum

Have a great day!
