I am going to assume that you took in a feral kitten, it is an outdoor cat, that has disapeared a couple times. Did you have the cat fixed? This helps it stay around the house, plus the over population. I took in a cat that someone dumped, it isn't feral, but will never be a totally indoor cat. It depends on how hungry the cat is if it will go into trap. I would just leave water and some dry food out for it. They will come back to where they know to get food. My ex caught a feral kitten for me once, it was always mean, and bit for blood. We ended up taking it to a friend's house out in the country and it became a barn kitty.

Good for you for taking on a feral. In my experience they usually can't be turned into great pets, but they might stick around your house, if cared for and fed regularly, and rid you of mice, rats and squirrels.

IMO the only good reason to trap it is to get is fixed or provide shots/vet care. If you decide to assume responsibility for the cat, you may also decide to get it chipped, so it can be returned to you if it gets picked up by someone else. Otherwise you could turn it over to a shelter or rescue or shelter - though they may be overrun with cats and kittens these days (or so I read).

I would not let out cat food for extended periods of time BTW, it will just attract racoons and other uninvited guests.

It will all depend on how hungry it is. Why do you want to catch the cat? Is it to go to the vet to get fixed? Or to try to "keep" it at home? Feral cats are a big problem and one of the best ways to help "fix" the problem is to work with a local animal shelter to catch & fix the wild cats. Many of them may be released back to the wild depending on the area (country vs city) but people have to look at the problems that also arise if the wild cats dont have their shots. So back to your question... it all depends on how hungry the cat is. One thing to be careful when trapping is you might end up with someones cat or even a skunk. Good Luck

I have 2 previously feral MALE cats----------------------they now hiss at each other.who is gonna get unto the bed1 I got them both neutered. They get along w/4 rescued dogs. I think they like the good life! I used a safe trap ,changed food a few times(smelly fish.......) ! I lost them (seperatly about 4 times, but they really liked the food.
I have worked w/ Actors & Others for animals & helped many cats get "fixed}Some were caught "feral" guys but anyway ,this helprd them to get spayed, etc.
Really .change your bait & ,also, please help them.......You should hear the purrs in our bedroom, instead of cat fights. the neighbors wanted to get rid of them, whatever!
Hope you love these guys!!1
