Essure Micro Inserts, Any Problems??

I've been considering the Essure micro inserts as permanent birth control for some time. My husband and are I sure that we do not want any more children, in fact he has gone in for a vasectomy consultation, but the clinic is backed up and he will not be able to have the procedure before he leaves on deployment. The problem with that is that we will be moving after he returns and then will have to start the whole process over again. I spoke to my doctor about sterilization at my postpartum appointment and she believes that I will be a good candidate for the essure micro inserts. My question to everyone is, have you had the procedure, did you have any problems and would you recommend them? Thanks for any advice!!

So What Happened?

I went in for the consultation today. After giving the doctor family medical history as well as history of my pregnancies, she went over the risks involved and how the procedure is done, then proceded to tell me that that I would be a good candidate for the Essure procedure, but that she does not recommed it and would not perform it on me since I am so young and likely to regret it later. I was told to have my husband get a vasectomy, and to get the Mirena IUD for myself. I'm still not sure that is what I want to do, but at least I know my options.

I had the consult, birthcontrol for 6weeks, and the appt. I chickened out. My gyno said it is the most effective of all procedures. I just couldn't stand the "waiting" period of 3 months after. It's not really effective until the scar tissue is built up around those "pen coils" in your tubes which takes about 3 months. And because I chickened out we got preg. with number 4. And wouldn't change a thing. Because I wanted something immediate...I had my tubes tied. I did have a girl fried have it done and she said it's a breeze. And the next day she was back to normal.

Have you considered an IUD? The insertion is fast and you can resume your sex life rapidly.
I got mine last month (Paraguard) and I like it. Yes my period came early and it was heavy but I can still breastfeed and I didn't have to wait to be protected. Plus if I change my mind and want more kids I can do that. I thought about Essure and tubal ligation but I just didn't feel right giving up my fertility...and I am 40! Good luck whatever you decide.

Hi H.,

Had you thought about the Mirena IUD device?

This is much simpler than having the essure micro inserts?

The Mirena IUD Device can be inserted into the uterus in the Doctor's office.

Did you have a traumatic labor and delivery with your second son?

Get an IUD device and then you won't have to worry about another pregnancy and give yourself a chance to recovery from this delivery.

Good luck. Hope this helps. D.

Perhaps you should consider something easier with a longer track record. I have had great luck with IUDs. The one I have now is hormone free and has been in place for eight years with no problems. I had one in between my last two kids and it was great too. Next time I think I will try the Mirena IUD with localized hormones. Heard great things about it eliminating your period or cutting it down to a couple days.
As a mom of four I know that you know when your done, but I would be uncomfortable with something so new when you are so young. Any side effects or complications could last 30years until you hit menopause
Good luck.

Hi,

I had the procedure earlier this year and I have not experienced any problems. My periods (which just returned two months ago) seem a little heavier but I don't know if there is a correlation---I even wonder if the heavier periods could be due to my body changing or the fact that I haven't had a period for over two years due to pregnancies and nursing.

To deal with the heavier periods I've been using the extra long pads with wings.
