So What Happened?

Thank you everybody I'm 31 years old so if they are still there in 4 weeks I'll ask for a mammogram to make sure nothing is wrong.

I know you've responded, but.....my son had a swollen lymph node for several months. It did not respond to antibiotic tx, but resolved after allergy season.

My neighbor had a CT, MRI, an ultrasound, & a biopsy. His diagnosis was mono! The situation has now resolved itself.

Good Luck!

The lymphatic system helps clear toxins out of your body. If they are enlarged without a "medical" disorder it could be that they are simply stressed. Are you taking medication, eating more junk food, exposed to other toxins (at work, construction at home, etc?) Have you lost weight recently? Since we ingest more toxins these days than in prior generations when we lose weight the toxins are released from our fat cells and enter our blood. As our body tries to eliminate them our lymph nodes may get stressed. Do not assume that cancer has anything to do with it. As one of our body's filtration devices, a lot of things pass through the lymph nodes. (which is why they are always tested when cancer is surgically removed to see if the lymph nodes have been involved yet.)
If you can try to eat organic, lots of water and do not stress yourself more than you already are!

have you recently changed deodorants? i have sensitive skin and have had quite a trial and error with what ones i can and cannot use. the ones that didnt agree with me i'd get what seemed like big bumps in my armpits. they eventually go away, eventhough they're kinda painful. i often wondered if it wasnt an ingrown hair or just a reaction to the different deodorants? mine never lasted for long periods of time though.
i suggest getting a second opinion. they can be lifesavers! good luck

i had that and they were also in my elbow looked like my arm was broken it was cat scratch fever. and all the while I thought it was just a song about something that didnt exist. you either have to be biten or scratched by a cat to get it. my cat thought she was falling and clawed me. I had no other symptoms other than the lymph node thing and my arm looked like it was broken but never hurt. they gave me antibiotics

Insist on an ultrasound. It will see more, especially under the arm, than a mammogram.

Have your or your doctor done a breast exam? That should definitely be something that needs to be done. If the lymph nodes remain enlarged, I would recommend that you request a mammogram or breast ultrasound. (I am a mammography technologist.) Hopefully it is just an infection, such as from a cold, virus, etc. and will resolve on its own. No matter what, do not take no for an answer if it persists and the doctor just wants to "watch it " after your next visit. Good luck!

My clavicular lymph nodes are quite swollen and i have been doing a lot of research on it, nothing good for me, ive found nothing. During my research and after talking to doctors online i have discovered that armpit lymph nodes can sometimes signify breast issues, id recommend a mammogram.

As a matter of fact, i recommend that to everyone here, this is breast cancer awareness month, we should all go get one.

Your lymph nodes may be a little bit congested. Try lightly massaging them in a circular motion while you are watching t.v. at night and see if that helps them clear up after a week or two. Also, any kind of exercize where you are swinging your arms around or even a fast paced walk with a lot of arm pumping should help clearn out those lymph nodes as well. It's not a quick fix -- you do have to give it some time to do it's job -- and you will have to do these things on a on-going basis to see results.

Hope this helps.

I second the question about the mammogram. It may be nothing, but you shouldn't ignore it either. I'd ask for a referral to a radiologist to have a mammogram done. If that comes back clear, then proceed on with the re-checking in 4 weeks as your doctor suggested.

As a matter of fact yes I have had this same exact issue. When I got pregnant for the first time- 13 years ago I noticed a hard, non painful knot under my right armpit. I ignored it the entire pregnancy and eventually after I had my son it went down in size and was no longer hard but soft. No worries right? Well I got pregnant again about 5 years later. I noticed the knot come up again- hard and enlarging. A nurse asked me if it was painful. I told her is wasn't at the time but it was annoying and that I didn't know why this was happening again. Soon after delivering my daughter , my doc told me I needed it removed. I agreed. The mass was removed and I dealt with a worse condition that happens sometimes with such surgery called lymphodema. My hand on this same arm would swell and become painful at times. At this time I did not know I had lymphodema. 3 years later I got pregnant again (yes again) ;-) and my armpit began to swell again....as if I never had surgery! The knot was bigger and very, very painful this time. I went to a surgeon who performed my second surgery. Afterwards, he told me that he removed six lymphnodes from under my armpit but they were non cancerous. I was happy but still dealt with pain and swelling from time to time. I got pregnant again (yes again) three years later but did not know it right then and noticed the swelling....this same surgeon put the pieces together and asked "Could you be pregnant?" I said "Yes, I could be I guess." jokingly half-heartedly. He said he thought the swelling was coming from the enlargement of my breast that happens when pregnant. I thought so too now that he explained the cause. I ended up losing that baby but got pregnant 3 months later....she's 2 now and today I am still having this issue with my arm...but its also my entire arm, hand and armpit. Everyone does not get lymphodema with surgery but its possible. The mass removed was indeed benign but I do have pain almost everyday now. Sometimes surgery helps sometimes it doesn't - it just depends on if u decide if its worth it or not. Today I know that I am cancer free because I had the surgery sooner rather than later. I will deal with the pain over that any day. Get checked again and again if you can just to be sure.

Is the skin broken or are they "oozing"? My friend had this same problem and it turned out to be MRSA. She had several rounds of antibiotics and it always came back (hence the resistance), so she went to an infectious disease specialist who diagnosed it right away. Just another possibility.

I'm 44 and have dealt with this off and on since high school. Mine enlarged mainly around my period time. When I was pregnant with both children it stayed enlarged the entire pregnancy, then went down after delivery. I've had several doctors look at it over the years and they have all told me it's nothing to worry about. I just assume it has something to do with hormones since it usually happens around my period. Good luck!
