Lump in Groin

Hello, ladies. I have another question...About 3 weeks ago I noticed a small lump in my groin. (I think it is my groin--it is at the top of my inner leg where my pubic hair starts. The lump is on my leg and not the pubic area, though) Anyway, I have been keeping an eye on it, and tonight I noticed it has gotten a little bigger. The width is about the size of a nickel, and it is about twice as long as a nickel. I don't see anything on my skin that looks like a pimple or blemish. It doesn't hurt, and it doesn't move when I push around on it. It is solid, too. So, what do you think it might be? Has anyone else had this problem? I never have, so I don't know if I should go to the doctor or just see if it will go away. It does worry me, though...
Thanks again for your responses!

So What Happened?

Hello, everyone! I ended up going to the doctor. She thought it was some kind of infection and gave me antibiotics. That really didn't help it go down any, and at the time I couldn't afford another co-pay at the doctor. So, I kept an eye on it. It ended up getting bigger before it finally came to a head and drained on its own. So, now it is gone. I'm not sure what it was really, but it's gone now. It must have been some kind of sebacious cyst or really deep pimple.

i have had this twice. if it is the same thing my obgyn said for me to do warm baths, don't mess with it and just be patient. it eventually went away. It was some type of clogged pore or gland.

I have had that happen several times in the past. I went to OBGYN once about it. Honestly, I can't even remember what she said it was, but it was nothing concerning. It goes away usually within 1-3 weeks. If I remember correcting the Doc. did say she could drain it if necessary.

I don't know what it could be, but it would be wise to go to doctor. I would go to see doctor quickly. Hopefully, nothing serious.

I, too, suggest you consult a doctor. They may just have you monitor it, or they may have an ultrasound performed on it. Ultrasound can determine if it is a lymph node, abscess, or something else. Are you noticing any swelling or pain in your leg on affected side are you? That would be a question they'll consider. Anyways, you should check into it because it could be an enlarged lymph node, of which they'll want to figure out why that is so.
Take care!! A.

It could be nothing, but since you have lymph nodes in your groin area you should have it checked out by your doctor. If you tell them the issue when you call to make the appointment they should get you scheduled pretty quickly.

About me: I'm an RN with one 5 year old son.

My husband had a similar problem only it was on the backside instead of the front. It ended up being an infected anal gland. He let it go for so long that it got infected to the point where he needed emergency surgery. If that is what you have and they catch it early enough antibiotics should be able to take care of it. I would definitely have it checked out though. Good Luck!

Hi A.! As a nurse, I say go to the doctor... without a doubt. Especially since it's gotten bigger. You have a family, and don't have time to let that thing get bigger and end up with a real problem on your hands!! Get in there and make an appointment! Good luck!

My sister has problems with that as well. She has had them removed before. Forgive me for not knowing the correct term, but it is like a cyst that forms. Hers though are very painful. So hers and yours could be two completely different things. However, saying that, if this is a newly discovered item on your body and this has not happened before I would definitely call and talk with a nurse at my doctors office and go in for an observation to see what they might think it is.

Wish you all the best.

You have already heard this from other ladies, but I used to get these swollen lymph nodes there. You can take an herbal suppliment called "lymph node cleanse", I have taken this a couple of times and it always reduced the swelling within a couple of days. Sometimes I get clogged ones in my neck, and they are actually painful to the touch, so I take the cleanse. I would only see a doctor if you don't notice the swelling going down in a week, these things take time. It's possible it's something worse, but I never jump to conclusions.

GO to the doctor. Don't second guess here. I don't want to scare you, but my sister-in-law's deadly lymphoma started in the pelvic area. The size and location of your lump worries me. Hey, maybe it is just a cyst. Play it SAFE. RUN to the doctor. Remember, cancer does not go away, it travels. Keep us posted. Good Luck.

It could be a hernia. I am pregnant and have one (ugh) that sounds very similar. My Dr says it 'should' go away once the baby is born.

The other thing is that it could just be a fatty tissue deposit. I also have these on random places (had these before kids) - on my forearm, one on my inner thigh. Dr said that these are nothing to worry about either...you could have it removed but probably not worth doing unless it is bothering you for some reason...

Good luck.

I had the same thing (in exactly the same area) about two years ago. I rushed to the doctor in a panic only to find out it was just a lymph node that was swollen. The doctor assured me it was nothing to worry about. It eventually went away. However, you might check with your doctor just to be sure.

Hope this helps.

Dear A.,
I have not had this happen to me but I did have a swollen area under my armpit. I was concerned but I had been sick and I think the lymph gland became swollen as a result of my illness. Have you been sick with a cold? If not I would check it daily and if it continues to enlarge I would get it checked fro piece of mind after 2-3 days. L. J

I get those periodically. My understanding is that it is your lymph nodes trying to fight off an infection. They act as filters and they are just doing their job. It should go away on its own. If not I would definitely ask my doctor.

A., I am not a huge fan of going to the doctor, but I know from personal experience that any solid lump is very suspect. When a lump is solid, doctors think tumor. That being said, there are many kinds of tumors and it could be something very simple that could easily be removed. You have my prayers.

It sounds like a swollen lymph node,, have you been sick? I'd go to the Dr. and they will probably put you on a strong antibiotic and see if it goes down. That is what they did for me when I had a swollen one in my neck (that I couldn't move and didn't hurt) and for my mom when she had a swollen one right there in her groin too. Let us know what the Dr says- it really does need to be checked out!

I would get it checked by your doctor but it could be a lipoma, which is a fatty deposit under your skin, a pretty benign condition.

I would recommend seeing your dr. I had that, and the dr put me on some antibotics. Sometimes your lymph nodes swell due to an infection in the body that your trying to fight. It brought mine down, but not all the way. It is gone now, but still experience swelling on both sides every now and then and it goes away on its own. For me, I tend to get a little sore in that area when the lymph nodes swell. Good luck

I would suggest having it looked at by a doctor. It could just be an enlarged lymph node. Is it just under the skin or does it feel deeper? There are lymph nodes throughout your body, and the way you described it (twice as long as it is wide) puts me in mind of that, kinda like when your kids or yourself gets sick and has the swollen nodes in your neck or the back of the head. Either way, if it has been there awhile and gotten bigger, definately have it looked at.
