Down Comforters

Hello Mommas,
I am looking for a new down comforter. The one we have has filling that is not being evenly distributed (it is fluffy in some places and flat with no filling in other places) so we are not staying warm. It does have baffle box construction so I don't understand why this happened, but obviously I don't want to buy another one that does the same thing! I am looking for recomendations for places to buy a down comforter from - looking for good quality and one where the filling stays where it is supposed to stay.

I did search this topic before asking about this - most of the people who replied to this question previously said that The Company Store is the best for down comforters. I did some reading online about them and it appears that they have been bought by another company and since then quality and cusomter service has gone down hill.

Thank you!!

Yes, I have tried shaking out our current one - doesn't help!

I actually bought one from an Eddie Bauer outlet probably 12 years ago. It has great stictching to keep the feathers in place. It was dirt cheap, probably because their was some "irregularity" on it but I swear that it feels like I am sleepig on a cloud. I love it!

We use to have down comforters but I think they break down over time.
I was getting a lot of dust after I shook them out.
So we switched to using down alternative comforters and we love them!
We shake them out regularly and rotate them (switch the head up end down to the foot of the bed for awhile) and it seems to keep them fluffy and even.
Our are from The Company Store - we got them 7 years ago and they are holding up fine.

We got ours from Costco almost 10 years ago, still love it. The cover started getting thin after multiple washes and many years so I made a new cover for it and it is like new again.

We got ours from Pacific Coast. Got our pillows from there too. They're great! Down comforters do require some shaking and shifting, so I do this daily/every couple days, and sometimes I fluff it in the dryer.

Good luck!

Overstock.com. Honestly. And you'll be able to get it cheaper there than elsewhere.
We buy all of our bedding from there and have been happy with it.

We bought ours at Meijer and have never had any problems with it. We do have a couple of fairly cheep down throw blankets. Those do redistribute when we wash them, but I just shake them out and most of the filly redistributes fairly well.

Have you tried just shaking it out?

I am from the Netherlands where everyone has down comforters on their beds. Even hotels. You need to shake it out every day to redistribute the down and fluff it up. You can maybe skip a day here or there. But you cannot just open the comforter in the AM and pull it back over you in the PM and assume it stays in great condition. Down settles and needs to be re-fluffed. I do it daily in the evening right before we cover ourselves. You just take it by the bottom ends and raise you arm way over your head and shake it up and down a few times. Also, when I put new comforter covers on I rotate the comforter inside the cover so the top is now at the bottom. Otherwise the side by your face will become thinner and thinner since you touch and scrunch it a lot.
So fluff away and redistribute that down and you may not need a new one.
Final note: down comforters come in different weights, meaning there is more down in the tick winter ones than the thinner summer ones. In the Netherlands many people have a double comforter in the cover: a summer weight one snapped to a medium weight one that together make a winter weight one. Mine came from The Company Store and I bought covers on Amazon.com.

I think ours is from Lands End.
So far so good. I think it's about 10 years old.
