Comforters That Are Allergy-friendly

My son is almost always congested in the mornings. I think it's due to the fact that our bedrooms are carpeted and we have down comforters. My son has a microfiber comforter in his bed but he always migrates to our bed in the middle of the night and says he likes our comforter better because its soft. He doesn't have a feather allergy but is allergic to dust and everytime we move the comforter, it seems like plumes of tiny feathers/dust flies out. Is this normal with down comforters? Are there any comforters out there that are allergy-friendly but feels like a down? I hate normal comforters.... Thanks!

What can I do next?

"Down feathers tend to become more allergenic as they age, as they become contaminated with molds and dust mites. Pillows provide the most common source of exposure, though mattresses, comforters, outerwear and upholstery can also cause problems. A Finnish study has shown that true feather allergies are rare, with most issues caused by dust mites.".

Just get down alternative comforters (and pillows) for everyone.

Ditch the comforter and get a nice velux blanket and a quilt or coverlet.

We bought one from Bed Bath & Beyond that can be washed. It was rather expensive, but I got tired of down, to be honest. You might try that.

The Company Store sells a primaloft/Down Alternative one. I don't have it, ours is regular down. But, everything else they sell is great quality.

I don't know what you are looking to spend, but they do have them here.

The dust from the down comforter is normal. You can get an allergy free cover for it though. They also have covers for pillows and mattresses. Can't remember the name of the company that sells them bu you can look it up. Hope this helps.
