I love the ear ones for little ones bc they are faster and they don't have to keep their mouth closed or their arm down. Just keep doing the same ear--which ever one you start with.

We have the same one. On younger children, you should make sure the cover is clean- no touching with your finger beforehand. Then, gently pull back the ear lobe to open the canal a little, place the thermometer in her ear and push the button. I don't recall it mattering which ear, just as long as the thermometer has a good opening to point into and read the temperature.

P.S. Nice name! ;)

Oral and ear temps are pretty close (tenths of a difference).

I would check both ears and if one is significantly higher OR baby YELLS on one, it could be an ear infection.

Go to the Product Info area (lower right hand side of page) for the Braun Ear thermometer for more info. Good luck!

Either ear is fine, although frequently one is a little warmer than the other, possibly due to a slight difference in the size of the ear canal. Do not add or subtract a degree. Your results should be the core body temperature if it's a good thermometer. It's a good idea to let the doctor know what type of thermometer you've used if you are talking to him/her about your child's fever.

I have one and, unfortunately, I really don't think it gives a consistent, accurate reading. I can take my own temperature with it several times in a row and it can give wildly different readings. My boys' pediatrician's office uses them and when they go in and get their temperature taken I almost always ask them to take it more than once.

My doctor said that the ear ones are much too big to put in an infant's ear. He said when they get to be 5 it would work. The only way to take a temperature now is the scan across the forehead kind. You can get them anywhere and they are not all that expensive. My doctor recommended it. I think it is called a tempural thermometer.

it doesn't matter which ear you use, it's better to use the same ear every time though. also, you should take your child's temp while they are well several times during the day to see what their normal average temp is. you need to pull back on the ear to open the ear canal, then point the thermometer towards the BACK of their head (the natural direction of the ear canal)

Hi S.,
I also do not think that it matters which ear, but it is important I think to take it consistently in the same ear. So if you take the first temp in the right, continue to use the right ear each of the following times.
Good luck!
