Do Your Kids Seem to Grow Overnight?

My daughter walked out this morning in a pair of jeans that fit her last week, and they are too short on the bottom! So I had her try on all her pants--same thing! They are all too short. She has NO PANTS that fit her!!

We hid her too-short pants in a pair of boots today and I guess I'll have to buy her a few pairs of pants to last her until spring hits!

We've never had that happen before, usually I buy her clothes seasonally and that's fine.

Have you ever had that issue too?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Part of me is thinking maybe we can stuff the pants in the boots until spring!

My friend gave me the great idea of just buying some cheap leggings/jeggings. Luckily we homeschool so she can wear her too-short pants at home and we can find something appropriately long for her "public wear" LOL!

My guys don't seem to grow very fast. My ten year old just grew into size eight. He was in size six for about three years.

Anyway, I would just let her wear short pants for the next month and buy her new pants in the fall.

Just wait till middle school. My poor 6th grader grew so fast, one day I could look directly in his eyes, the next, his eyes were 1/2 inch above mine and he was looking at my eyebrows. Several pants sizes that year. He was playing basketball and by the end he was in short shorts!

ETA: you can make capris out of the too short pants! Or take them to be altered.

Definitely. Just went through another growth spurt with our son. The few pairs of pants he's willing to wear are suddenly too short - but he's totally attached to them. He insists on wearing them anyway. *Sigh*

Does she like skirts? Or capris pants? :) Good luck!

I have heard of these growth spurts you speak of but after 9 yrs i'm not thinking my kid grows that way. and i'm too disorganized to make a growth chart on the wall and remember to do it.

at 9 he has just started wearing the size 7 clothes, and there is such a huge jump in size for the 10/12 it's horribly frustrating.

LOL! Yes! There were a few times, when my son was a baby, that he outgrew his pajamas during the night!

Yes, growth usually seems to happen really quickly, in spurts.

Yes, when the body is sleeping it uses it's energy for other things. Fighting off disease/illnesses, building the body and growing, etc....it's not working on moving, walking, talking, eating, smiling, processing our environment, etc.....

So the kids grow like crazy when they're asleep.

I remember once we put my daughter in an adorable outfit. We tried to take it off later and she had grown so much that we couldn't get her arms out! I was stressing out because she was stuck lol

Yes, my daughter has been on a steady growing spurt of every 6 months.

Last March her skates were too small, so we stretched them and that went well until September. So her birthday present for October really didn't turn into a birthday present because we had to buy her new skates a month early, because the skates were too small. Now 6 months later her toes hurt. So I had the skates stretched. She tried them on and they were fine, until the next practice and she said the were too small. So we thought they didn't stretch them right, so we stretched them again and she was so happy. A few days later she said they were small again and sure enough her toes had the impression from the skate stamped in them. So I have not taken out the inserts and she says that is better...I really don't expect this to last.

I am guessing she wasn't done growing, so things seemed okay and then not okay. I have been wondering if that is possible.

I read all the comments about waiting for the growth spurts in junior high. I am holding on to the belief that she is doing all her growing now and she will be done growing by junior high.

She is 7.5 years old, 54" as of last week and has a size 4 shoe...I am afraid to measure her now.

Absolutely!
My son at ages 4, 6, and 8 sprouted up 4 inches each of those years and I had to replace his entire wardrobe 3-4 times when ever it happened.
This was tough when he was wearing school uniforms.
In pre-school they were still taking naps and his teachers were amazed.
They said he really did seem taller after nap time than he was that same morning - it was like watching him grow right there in front of their eyes.
I tried getting him clothes on the big side (roll up the sleeves and pants at first) but he still didn't get more than a few months wear out of them.
Same with his shoes.
The poor kid had such horrible growing pains.
Since then his growth spurts have not been as dramatic or as rapid.
He's 14 (in 8th grade) now and he's 6ft 1in tall - as tall as his Dad - and I doubt he's finished growing yet.
Our pediatrician always said he had the potential to reach 6ft 4in.
He's most of the way there already!

My 9 year old daughter recently decided to become almost my size. Granted, she's about ten inches shorter than I am and about 30 pounds lighter but the fact remains she's nearing my size. She is on the upper end of little girl sizes and we had one heck of a time finding her clothes that were not only fitting but also age-appropriate. I dread the teen years and all the numerous growth spurts.
