Did Your Wedding Rings Make Your Finger Shrink?

So, I was thinking I need to get my rings resized when it flew off my finger the other day. Its pretty loose. But, my ring finger is def smaller wear my bands sit. It shrunk my finger. Its so much smaller than my right ring finger.
I dont wear it 24/7 either. I only wear it when I leave the house. Which during the week isnt much.
If I get it resized to fit tighter wont it just shrink my finger more?

What can I do next?

My rings spin and are loose when it's cold. When it's hot, they are tight and I want them bigger. so I guess where they are is the happy medium.

My ring finger is also larger than my left ring finger...and I am right handed. Thanks for that tip, Jo!

My wedding bands never come off (unless I'm making meatloaf or digging in the dirt) so my finger is indented where they sit. I wear three rings on that finger so it's a larger space that is indented compared to the two I used to wear.

Your finger isn't shrinking. This is a combination of the rings probably creating an indentation in the skin (harmless) and the fact that in warmer weather, our hands swell a little bit (not usually noticeable except in ring fit) while in cooler weather our hands are a bit smaller.

If you resize the ring it will probably be too tight when it's the middle of August! Talk to a good jeweler about inserts that narrow the inside diameter of the ring. You can remove the inserts when the weather warms up. Also, resizing a ring means cutting it, so it's not the first resort since it can weaken the band.

My rings always fit differently when it's cold. They're very loose. In the Summer, they fit tighter. It has to do with bloodflow.

Unless you've lost a lot of weight, your fingers usually don't change in size.

When Im cold or hot I notice they fit differently.. smaller when cold.

But yes I have a very noticeable difference in size where my ring sits ( its indented) compared to the rest of my finger or fingers that I don't wear rings. It drives me nuts because my rings spin now on my finger or if Im cold and Im not careful my rings will come right off or if Im lucky my knuckle will stop them.

Your not alone on this one!

It's really the knuckle that hold the rings on, and since they don't sit there, the size of the rings shouldn't affect that. I've had my rings sized down already, and I probably need to do it again as they fly off at times.

My mother's aunt (she was in her 80's) could not take her wedding ring off.
Her knuckles/joints swelled over the years and the ring would not slide off her finger.
It was loose, but she was never worried about losing it.
She was happy to be buried with it.
The only way to remove it would have been to cut the ring off (or cut off her finger) but there was no need.

I think my engagement ring is a size 6 and my wedding band is a 6.5 but my other hand is a size 7 and 8. I never take my wedding rings off, ever, only to clean them. I think our fingers just get used to the ring being there, I soak mine on occasion for 3 days at a time and it takes a day or two for the dent to leave my finger. Depending on the weather, I will say I'm having a "fat finger or skinny finger" day.

No, but their is an indentation there if I take my ring off. Which I normally do not do at all. Fluid retention will change how your rings fit on your finger. I notice my rings fit tighter when I am on my period.

I think the weather shrinks your fingers not the ring. I have small strange fingers so to get a ring to fit properly in the winter I wouldn't be able to wear it in the summer. :(

Then again it has been pretty warm out....maybe get it resized if you are still having problem in June?

Oh, are you right handed because your dominant hand is always bigger than your other.

while you can lose weight or swelling from water retention, usually it's the metal responding to temperature changes which affects whether your ring fits or not.

My rings are notoriously loose all winter long & fit perfectly thru the summer. It's just something I deal with.

The metal presses on the skin the whole time the ring is on the finger and it does not allow water weight to be stored underneath. If you wear anything around part of your body you will find and indentation most of the time. The longer one wears it the longer the indentation stays. My friend that got divorced said she could still see a faint indentation a year after she took her rings off.

well I have boney fingers (wish I could say that about the rest of my body though), my pinky is a size 2, my wedding ring finger is a size 3 or 3.5 (I can't remember) and then it goes size 5, 6, and 6.5 is the largest. For years and years I used to wear rings on all my fingers all the way to the knuckles and I never took them off (I also wore about 30 bracelets on each arm at that time too) so I figured that my hands never had a chance to 'fill out'. My fingers change depending on the weather but they don't bloat like most people's do and luckily they didn't change when I was pregnant (but my ankles on the other hand...)
