Craziest Way You've Been Innovative with Home Projects?

This isn't exactly a project but soon after we were married my man took me to his cabin in the woods in the middle of November which we spent the night in and he would go hunting early in the morning (4am) while I slept. The problem was this was a run down ramshackle hillbilly put together plywood cabin (he was so proud of it) run on a generator and it went kaput in the middle of the night. So when he left, I was sooooo cold I ran my hairdryer to heat the cabin up. I propped it up between 2 pillows (like an idiot) and pointed it at me and after about an hour it started sparkling and then blew up and I almost burned the cabin down. Needless to say that was the day I learned that a hairdryer shouldn't be used to heat a room, much less a hillbilly cabin.

And yes, you read it right...I brought my hairdryer on a hunting trip. I'm sure I'm not the only woman who has ever done that, right?

That's how we came up with inventions to begin with! (I've also used a straightening iron, for hair, to touch up cuffs when we're running late)

My FAVORITE is my 'closet'.

I have this thing about needing to be able to "see" my clothes. Drawers are useless... and I DESPISE hangers. Ugh. It also doesn't count as being able to "see" stuff, since it's just this TINY little part that shows/ things get pushed back, etc.

Sooooooo... I bought rounded nickel "kitchen towel" hooks, about the size of my thumb, for a buck each from Home Depot. Both single and double prong. Did 2 lintes of them (neck high and waist high), along the wall of my closet, spaced a couple inches apart. Voila!!! I can see my clothes! They never ever ever have to be folded, put on stupid hangers (or schlep hangers around, pick up off the floor, etc.). For drycleaning... I use a "tie rack" which gives the drycleaning/dresses/etc. a place to be hung

HUGE BONUS:

I did the same thing for my then 2yo. Which meant that from age 2 onward He. Was. Able. To. Put. Away. All. Of. His. Own. Clothes. Every couple years as he gets taller... I just move the hooks about 6" upward.

My iron rarely gets used. It's a pain to get down. I need to iron on patches onto my son's baseball hat. My flat iron for my hair made a perfect tool to attach the patches.

Hey, you could have used a flat or curling iron! Save that for future projects (wink). I have warmed myself and my bed with a blowdryer just like Ally G on certain upstate vacations. I did not prop it, I just warmed everybody, bundled them and went to bed.

My girlfriend, a veterinarian, gave me the styrofoam bottom inserts from the packages of meds she'd get in the mail. I stacked two pieces and stuck wooden dowels through both. Now I use it to dry plastic baggies that I've washed so I can be 'green'!
