I've been going through some difficult stuff lately, and unfortunately my 4 yr old little girl has been through a lot along with me. Its important to me that she's healthy and happy, and I think we may benefit from some counseling. However, I'm not in the best financial position right now, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any ways to obtain free or low-cost counseling for my child and myself (at least for her!) If anyone knows where I can get any info I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Check out Glen Roberts Child Study Center on Colorado Blvd. in Glendale. They work on a sliding scale for their fees. When my children were younger, I took them there to deal with the split up of me & their father & his continual absence from their lives. They did "play therapy". Good luck & God Bless. If you don't go to church, that also helps - EVERY situation. H.O.P.E.'s House in Van Nuys on Sherman Way is an amazing church...very spiritual and very caring.

Does your husband work? Have you checked into your insurance? Many times your employer offers counseling programs thru the insurance. I can't remember what it's called, but ask at work, or look into your hubby's insurance. It's quite common to be part of the package. Good luck, and good for you for being so aware of your childs needs!

I know there is a ministry called New Life Ministries that has counselors all over, even nationally, and they see people on a sliding scale, ie. what you are able to pay. Even though they are a ministry, you do not have to be a Christian to go and they are not preachy. They have a daily radio show with callers and many different types of people call in. They've always given sound, compassionate advice and counsel. You can go to www.newlife.com to find a counselor in your area.
