My two grandchildren are visiting from California, and I would like to do something fun with them outdoors. What is avaiable in the Southbury area?
Depending on their age you can take them sledding. I know some of the local ski areas have sledding down the hills on these HUGE sleds that all of you will fit in. I don't know about your health but I know my mom did it in PA and she's in her 60's. She said it was the most fun she's had in a while. Her and her sister did it.
Southford Falls, route 188 in Southford (between Southbury and Oxford), has nice falls and nice hiking trails.
Kettletown State Park is also nice. It's in Southbury on North Georges Hill Road.
Another nice place for hiking is Mohawk State Park, on route 4 between Goshen and Cornwall. Go up to the top of the mountain for a great view of the Berkshires.
Action Wildlife Farm (I think that's the name)in Goshen, CT, route 4, has neat animals.
i love Kidcity Museum in Middletown CT...it is awesome!!!..but it is indoors not outdoors.
Outdoors you're kind of limited-nothing is really outdoors, taht I know of, especially since they're not used to the coldness, being from CA, but I would agree that sledding, snowballs, etc are your best bet.
