Hi Mamas!
Happy Holidays to you! My husband and I are looking to take a short winter vacation (kids included of course) and I am turning to you smart moms looking for ideas as I am not too familiar with the area. We are interested in a snowy area that offers snowmobiling and sledding and/or snow tube runs. I would also like an indoor pool and less than five hours drive time. We are totally open on location. If you have had any great winter vacations, please let me know. I am DESPERATE for ideas! My hubby is leaving the planning up to me!
Thanks!
K.

Grand Geneva resort in Lake Geneva is a great option. Not to far from home, about 1 hour 45 minutes. They have a ski hill, indoor waterpark, tons of activities, etc. Plus, the town of Lake Geneva always has tons of stuff going on in the winter. Wilmont mountion is not far and I know they have a whole kids area with tubes and stuff. Williams Bay (5 minutes from Lake Geneva) had a huge sled hill and tobbogan (sp?) slide. There is so much to do in this area, you will never lack activities! Good Luck!

The Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells has winter activities too. We usually go during the spring/summer and it's a family favorite. Great for all ages. Their indoor pools are awesome and there's sooo much to do. You literally don't need to leave the resort. There's also an indoor dry park, arcade and arts & crafts (pottery). We've always wanted to go during the winter and haven't as of yet. Check their website for their monthly specials. We usually go on the $99 a night specials for the double room. We have three kids and all sleep just well.

Happy Holidays!

I thought of you today after I read this, when I finally was able to sit down and read today's Daily Herald (SUN)
In the TIME section (entertainment and pull out section)is a big article on skiing and tubing in Michigan. You can probably get it on line if you don't have the paper...The title is "Ski Michigan"...talks about Boyne Falls, MI
Good luck!

Hi K., the winters here in Il. are a bit longer than Maryland...I lived in Manansas, Va. and you're so right, it's a lot warmer...when we wanted to take the farmily on a winter vacation, we would head for the Wisconsin Dells...there you can find some really nice resorts that have winter sports and also indoor water parks...The Dells is a fun place, winter or summer...hope you have a good time whatever you decide, J.

Have fun on your winter trip!

Starved Rock might be an option, and it's close to you. Not sure about snowmobiling, but there are 2 or 3 state parks with hiking, waterfalls, small canyons, etc. I know they have sledding and cross country skiing, and there's a water park resort right down the street from the Starved Rock state park entrance. It's a beautiful area - we went last year in February and it was a lot of fun. (it's also the winter migration area for bald eagles, which you can see in the Jan/Feb months)
