hi everyone--

does anyone have recommendations for a canister vacuum that will work well on hardwood floors? my dyson upright (sigh) is not doing a good job on the floors (we had wall-to-wall carpet before). any suggestions that won't break the bank?

(and does anyone want a dyson ;)?)

thanks!

edited to add: what model do you all have? (i just searched for kenmores, and there are a lot of options.) thanks!

What can I do next?

Well mine is old. Have had it for YEARS!
So don't know the current models now.
But Kenmore canister vac's are good.
Get it from Sear's.
Good prices and you can read the reviews of it on their website.

Yes I have a Kenmore!! We bought it specifically when we installed our hardwoods, and we have had it for several years. I don't know the model #, but Sears does have many different kinds of cannisters. We bought the really expensive one, because it was also on sale and we got a better deal on it. Also, we bought the extended warranty. We NEVER do that on anything, but it included having the vacuum tuned up and cleaned twice a year so we felt the price was worth it. It has several attachments, that are very easy to change out, and they have one that has felt on the bottom, easy on the hardwoods. The arms also lay flat on the floor when you are vacuuming, so you can get underneath all the furniture all the way back. My furniture sits up maybe 4" off the ground, and it still gets underneath it. I love it a lot!!!

I have the Sears Kenmore. I noticed all the cleaning people use this brand and I went an looked at it. the price kinda is high for what we wanted to spend, however, at $400 8 years later, its still working perfectly with no brake downs and I am embarrassed to say, we have not tuned up or done anything but change filters and bags.

We had two dogs for most of those years and it took care of dog fir no problem. Kept our house looking professionally clean and odor free. Worth the money. What ever you do, don't buy an Oreck. Total waste of money and doesn't get around base boards. You have to take the small cannister they sell you to do the job. Doesn't clean half as good.

Good luck

We really like our Oreck; we've had it for 6 years and have never had a problem. It's also great to know that there are Oreck stores out there that service your vacuum when needed (and are specific to the brand). It is very lightweight and easy to handle, as well as being small-profiled and easily stored. It works great on both carpeting and hard surfaces.
Good luck!
