Hi,

Can anyone recommend any campsites geared towards really young kids in the San Jose area? We don't mind driving 2-3 hours for a weekend.

We are just looking for low-key camping (ie tent) with some facilities for a weekend and some younger kid-oriented activities.

Thanks,
S.

I camp lots. The KOA in Petaluma has farm animals, a train and lots of facilities and events.
The KOA in Santa Cruz is awesome also....jumping pillow etc. etc.
Big Sur Cabin and Campgrounds is awesome and Riverside camping in Big Sur

Shhhhhhh don't tell anyone I gave away the secret camping places.
PS: if you do go to one of these places please email me and tell me how your trip went. Thanks

Hi S.,

We go to Del Valle in Livermore. It's close enough but far away at the same time. Cell phones don't work down in the valley, so it's a true get away. Our kids are 6 and 4. We have a 17 yo but doesn't always go with us. Del Valle has running bathrooms with showers. They also have open grass areas for the kids to play. There is a lake where the kids can swim and on one side, they rent out some water equipment. We go loaded with squirt guns and balloons. The kids love it. It's a great price as well. Good luck.

Near Yosemite there is a camping ground that has fun things to do. They have a pool, a petting zoo, a station to pan gold, and a hiking trail behind the place that we went on with our kids a few times. They also have an old miners cave that you need a flashlight for but it is really cool. I think it is called Yosemite Pines Campng Grounds. It's only about 45 minutes from Yosemite too. We took a day trip there, then also went to a lake one day because they had a lagoon the kids could play in.

Good luck,

Big Basin in Santa Cruz Mountains just above the town of Boulder Creek is a nice option. They have family campfire on Friday nights and several days a week they have Nature Club for kids 3-6 and Junior Rangers 7+. There is a small 45 minute hike that many kids enjoy as well as many longer hikes. My kids, 3 & 5 love Big Basin. Have fun no matter what you choose. T.
