I have a sore on my nipple area from my daughter nursing with her top teeth (just rubbing against it). What should/can I do to get this healed?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to all who gave advice. It was actually a sore/cut about 1/4 inch deep. The lanolin helped a little but nothing actually helped it heal quickly. I suffered through nursing with it, and it has finally healed.

Thanks again for the advice.

I used lanolin as well and it was a lifesaver. But I did start to overdo it and I think that started to cause a problem of its own keeping the area too moist so frequently and not allowing it to heal. My lactation consultant ended up telling me to balance between the lanolin and airing the nipple out. Which is hard unless you want to run around topless I know....but it did help. I would just try to get ready after my shower before dressing.

You can put a small amount of lanonin on it after she nurses. If she gets some in her mouth the next time she nurses, that's ok, but don't put it on right before.

You can also try a different position so that the tooth doesn't hit that spot anymore. For instance, you might try a football hold for a while so that the top of her mouth is on a different part of your breast until it heals.

I had the same problem - I switched sides - started with the non-sore side first so my guy wouldn't be sucking as h*** o* the injured side. also, if you can, change angles? I know when they're younger you can nurse a few different holds; harder when they're older but it may help. Good luck!

Use Lansinoh Lanolin, the purple tube, after every feeding and as often in between as you can remember. It won't hurt the baby if any is still on your skin when you do nurse. Also great for chapped lips and dry skin. Changing positions can help.

You may want to try those breast shields so that the sore does not rub directly on your clothing. also, nipple cream worked for my sore nipples - lansinoh or there is an organic nipple cream that i used as well. I can't remember the name of it, but I am sure you can look it up on the internet. Good luck!

To get a different angle you may try nursing while laying down.

This sounds strange, but I am rather large-breasted, so I would change our position when we nurse so her teeth rub in a different area, or twist my breast as she latches on to also give a different surface area. In conjunction with this, I use some baby-safe lanolin cream - I think mine is Gerber brand in a tube. Hope that helps!

The nipple shields are awesome!!! I nursed twins for eight months! Those were a life saver if my nipples became sore. They have them at target.

I used Lanolin to heal the sore. It comes in a purple tube like a short chubby tube of toothpaste or there is now a spray version of it I saw at Target. Apply it after every time you nurse. It is safe completely for baby. Somehow it gave me relief within that same day. I hope this helps.
