Brazilian Bikini Wax? WARNING: May Be Some TMI

OK, so this is something I've been thinking about for a while, never had done or really considered it, but hubby is currently pursusing a new career in trucking, on the road training until he gets officially hired, and this is his first time away from home for several days at a time. I am sure he would be thrilled but the idea of the potential pain involved scares me, and is what has kept me from wanting to do it before. But I've been thinking about it more, as a "welcome home surprise." And the oral sex question also got me thinking that that's probably why I am more on the giving end than the receiving end (which I really don't mind but still...). I try to keep it "trimmed" but thinking of going that extra step and going "all out." Unfortunately I have a tendency to nick myself when I've tried shaving.

Has anyone ever had it done? Did it really hurt really bad or was it not that bad? Do you do any "prepping" - like any "pre-shaving" or anything of the sort? What was your partner's response?

I'm not a wimp when it comes to pain, but I know even just getting my eyebrows waxed can make me tear up a bit, so I can only imagine what it would be like all "down there." :O

So What Happened?

Wow, something to think about...thank you for the responses so far, not sure I will do this time, but maybe for another time that he is gone and then coming home! ;)

I did it last year as an anniversary gift for hubby - he loved it and I liked being "clean" for the summer - I didn't really have to shave at all - and it took a while to really grow back in - like I did it in May and it didn't really come back full force until August.

The pain was not unbearable but it certainly wasn't fun. I say go for it - you only live once! :-)

Well, when he gets home, maybe you could have HIM do it with his electric shaver. He might like that. Just be sure to vacuum before the kids get home, teehehe.

No way! I have 4 tattoos, have birthed 3 kids (1 vaginal and 2 c-sections) have had my fair share of injuries...I am not a wimp. But the very thought of having someone rip the hairs from my vagina makes me cringe.

I can't and won't do it. I will say I have the most sensitive skin on earth and a straight razor, okay one of the Gillette things, never nicks me or give me a rash.

Perhaps while he is gone grab the razor and see what skills you have without having your hair ripped out. I have threatened to carve a T in the fur. :p Troy is not nearly as amused. :)

Make sure the razor is sharp! I know you would think a dull blade would nick less but it is the opposite. Hell I used to use that one that vibrates, no nicks!

If you want a clean shaven look, get coochy cream from a Pure Romance consultant, it is a rash free shave cream that works amazing and you don't get the red bumps or ingrown hairs from shaving.

I bit the bullet and started going "all the way" about a year ago (I've gotten a bikini wax for years). It did not hurt as much as I thought it would and I was VERY happy with the results. Don't get me wrong - it hurts, but the results get rid of any pain - and it's usually quick pain.

You should not shave before you get waxed. They need the hair longer so the wax and strips have enough of the hair to pull. It's a lot harder (and more painful) if it's shorter. The results stay for about a month depending on your hair type.

I am currently shaving because I'm trying to pay some bills, but I can't wait to treat myself. Try to get good recommendations of where to go. That makes all the difference, too.

Oh, and my hubby LOVES the results as much as I do.

Good luck!

Added: I'm sorry, but LeeLee must not have gone to someone who knew what they were doing. I've been to many, many different people and have never heard, shorter is better. I was actually too short one time and it was EXTREMELY painful. Also, the nice thing about waxing is that when it grows in, the hair is very thin so you don't get bumps or itching. I hate when I've shaved and it grows back in - that is annoying.

Ohhhhhh lordy, did that once and won't do it ever again. And I read up, took Ibuprofen right before, didn't do it around my period, yada yada yada. I'm no pain priss, either, I had a natural childbirth w/ no epidural, but I almost came out of my skin when she ripped the hair out. And guess what I ended up with? Blood blisters, right before our trip to Hawaii. This was at a reputable salon/spa.

P.S. I'm not sure about the longer hair thing, either ... mine was trimmed, not long, and the girl doing it commented that I should have cut it even shorter and it would have been less painful.

I wanted to get my legs waxed for my wedding... legs have 'thicker' skin due to the constant abrasions and contact with everything, so pain would be less than say... a very nerve filled erogenous zone like the mons pubis and outer lips of the vulva. The first rip was excruciating!! I was all ready to stop right there, but forced myself to continue and the salon woman got another friend to do my other leg at the same time to condense the agony and get it over quicker.

Have your hubby shave you... then enjoy what comes after. With all the swelling, redness, pain and possible heat marks - I'd forgo that.

Do it @ The beauty room salon and spa in Troy. Very painful but she's good and fast. Like ten minutes and your done. No bleeding or soreness after. ###-###-#### the hair actually grows back less. I will do it again. There is no way I am going to take a shaver to my privates. Lol
I think it was $55.00

I get waxed approx once per month - sometimes 5 weeks. Love it, hubby loves it. Yes, it hurts, but it's not anything crazy-awful. It hurts my bank account more. I have been doing it for 3 years, just can't imagine not doing it. I am looking into laser treatments simply because of cost and that I like to be smooth.

I have done it once. It hurt horribly. But it was short lived, I got over it. IF we had extra money, I'd possibly do it again but money is very tight and salon money is not in the budget right about now...

Also, growing back in, I got irritated red bumps just like shaving...so it didn't seem better than shaving.
