My son just turned 3 and wont stand up to pee. My husband has shown him how to do it, but he would rather sit down like mommy does. Do you think its too soon to teach him to stand to pee like daddy does?

What can I do next?

I have two boys and the older one sat for about a year and the younger one always stood. I recommend having him sit for as long as possible. The mess when they stand is unbearable, they miss, shoot the tub, it gets everywhere! Also, if you put a drop of yellow food coloring in first and then they shoot at it and watch it change colors (which they can't do sitting) that can be a good incentive if you really want him to stand. Good luck.

I wish my husband's mother had never taught him to stand. :)

Leave him alone. He will stand up to pee when he is ready. If you keep pushing it he will stop going at all and you will end up having him back in diapers. All children are different. He will stand up to pee when he is ready, not when you think he should............

Hi. I agree with the other moms that he will stand when he's ready. An incentive you might try is putting some cheerios in the toilet and let him try to aim and hit them.

My son used to sit because he wasn't quite tall enough to stand and aim. Once he got a little taller and it became easier, he stood. Your son will stand when ready.

My son just turned 3 on July 30th and although he knows how to pee standing, he prefers to sit. I think it's fine, he'll do it in his own time. Personally, I prefer the sitting for now, at least until his aim gets a little better! LOL

Most boys, I have found will just natuarally stand up when they are ready. Some younger 3's dont really understand the consept of aiming either;) So, that saves you from cleaning the floor every time he goes. LOL! Don't worry, he wont sit down to pee forever, let him do it when he is ready.
