Better Couponing...

Although I have watched extreme couponing, I know that I will never get to that level...after all what normal sized family actually has a need for 73 bottles of mustard? Anyway, they always talk about double and triple couponing stores. Has anyone actually ever seen a grocery store in Tampa that does double or triple coupons? I would like to get better at coupons...

So What Happened?

I definitely have no desire to "extreme coupon". I don't have the time for sure. However, I was curious about the double and triple coupons... I had never seen it around where I live. Now I know that Florida does not do it. Thanks.

Florida does not do double coupons. There are many stores up north that regularly do double coupons and sometime triple, but unfortunately, Florida does not do it.

I used a website for many months that helped me get a handle on how to do it. I wouldn't call it extreme, but it is based on stocking up and not buying when you NEED it (and pay full price). It is also best to use the coupon when the item is already on sale. That is the premise of the following website.

It is www.thegrocerygame.com You do pay $10 for one store every other month and $15 for two stores every other month. Even though I paid for it, I still saved a TON of money and liked it better than other sites that were free. It is very organized. It gives you the list of the sales at the store you choose and you click on the ones you think you want to buy. You print the list of the items you chose and then pull your coupons. The list shows the original price, the sale price, the coupons that are available (with the date of the paper it came in), the final price after coupons, and a % of money you saved. It is also color coded. Green items are free after coupon, blue are items you should stock up on (great price), and black are items that ok to buy if you NEED them.

You are right, no one needs 73 bottles of anything. I did stock up on razors, deodorant, body washes, and shampoos for those few months and we are just now starting to run low (1.5 years later). That saved us a TON of money. What you have to be careful of is buying all the cereal you get for 75 cents or less. I wrote the expiration dates on it in big print so we could rotate properly. The key is to know how much you use and not stock up on stuff you have plenty of EVEN IF IT iS DIRT CHEAP. Unless, you choose to donate the items to the food bank. Which is a great way to contribute without it being full price.

I learned my prices pretty quickly after doing that would know if I could just use a coupon on my own and it would be the best time to use it.

I don't use it right now because we are getting ready to move and I need to run down my stock before that. Once we are moved and settled, I will get going again.

One last thing. Check with your stores to find out what their expiration policy is. We have one grocery in town that will take expired coupons for up to 3 months. That is a huge help.

Best of luck!

Around here, most grocery stores double coupons that are less than $1
(35 cents to 70 for example), but they won't give you more than $1 off.

However, their sale flyer usually has 3 or 4 double your dollar off coupons about once a month. I love those weeks- I usually manage to get something for free, or close to it.

One week I got 3 boxes of Green Giant Veggies, a box of Celestial Seasonings tea, a tube of Colgate toothpaste, and a package of 12 Energizer batteries- the total came to less than $5 !!

Good luck!! =o)

It's true that Florida stores do not do double couponing.. However, there are some awesome websites that take you through the best deals, so you don't even need double coupons! Check out totallytarget.com, iheartpublix.com, faithfulprovisions.com, and truecouponing.com for the basics, and coupon matchups with the weekly ad. Hope this is helpful!

@ Kitty B's post - I kept saying, the stores are going to do crack down on this, I know it's coming, i know it's coming... And see... it was just a matter of time - especially once it went televised. I have a friend who was doing this for YEARS too before the show aired, they should of kept their mouths SHUT.

I would LOVE to walk into a store just say ONCE a year and stock up like they do - but they do it MORE than once a year - um, isn't that HOARDING???? LOL - I do find it nice that they say they donate most of it. But I just don't need 1 million bottles of asprin either. I was disappointed that Florida stores don't double or triple, I even called a store I SAW on the show that we DO have and they said they don't. I just don't see much in the coupons that I actually do use.

I use the online coupons mostly, since I don't buy a newspaper - I'd honestly waste the newspaper because I just don't have time to read it. This way, I print the ones I know I'll use and not get tons of things I won't use.

T.,
There aren't any stores in central Florida that double or triple coupons. There are a few stores in North Florida that do.
I base my grocery shopping around the BOGO free deals from Publix & go from there.
Southernsavers.com is a great website to help match up coupons & deals.
I follow a few coupon ladys on Facebook too.
Saving with Shellie
Coupon queeny
Southern savers
The Krazy coupon lady
Pinching your pennies
Hip2save
Couponingtodisney
Thesuburbanmom
Okay, so maybe more than a few.
They are all very helpful in finding which deals atwhich stores, etc.
I keep our weekly grocery bill down to almost nothing & i do not stock pile mustard.

I've checked all the Tampa stores (Publix, Sweetbay, Winn Dixie, etc.) and nobody doubles coupons. My best strategy is to get two papers and when Publix does BOGO, use two coupons. They will take a coupon for the "free" product too. I like the site couponmom.com. I've also been trying to get other flyers for dollars-off coupons because Publix will take coupons from certain other grocery stores. Each store has its own list of competitors. For example, my Publix won't take GFS coupons.

I don't get these people who stock up on a product to the point of hoarding. I think it's stressful to have too much and not be able to use it before the expiration. I have about 10 boxes of cereal, with several expiring this month (I'm the only one who eats it), and several bottles of salad dressing expiring soon too. I don't like to throw away food.

I can not help with your where question...but I did want to put a warning out to everyone who does the extreme couponing...

Stores are starting to ban people who do this...Wal-Mart just banned 3 families this week for doing this....Stores are cracking down on coupons due to the economy, and the fact that many businesses are suffering due to the economy...extreme couponing is taking the profits away...

Just a warning...nothing more....
