Best Small Digital Camera

I need to get a new digital camera so I can get some good pics of my kids this holiday season and I am stumped at what I should get. There are so many choices! My price range isn't very high...probably $150 max. I want a camera that is a "good camera for the money" and not "you get what you pay for". What do you use and how do you like it?

i have a canon sd1100..i love it.. have had it for a year and my kids use it, it has been dropped several times..and still takes GREAT pics..the new model is the canon sd1200..and it has a re-chargeable battery, like a cell phone battery..so no more hundreds of dollars on batteries!

Since I got my new i-phone -4GS, I don't even bother to get out my digital camera. The photos are wonderful- it has a zoom in capability and I always have it handy. This may be out out of your price range, but if you were thinking about a new phone and a new camera--it would be worth looking into!

My husband and I both have Olympus digital cameras. My husband has a 12megapixel..and I have a 10. His takes much better pics. Wish I knew the exact model..could be a stylus or an FE, but I know they are within your price range. There are 14 megapixel Olympus cameras out right now, but go for the 12. I get excellent pics with just 10 but his camera takes excellent video from a distance.

I have a Canon Power Shot SD 1300 IS. A digital elph. It takes video(pretty good video) in addition to pictures. The battery is rechargable and lasts fairly well. It has 12 megapixels and takes good photos. The only probelm we've had is taking pictures in low or very bright light and then trying to zoom in on something. Picturse turn out blurry. Maybe it is me, not the camera. I love how small and conveient the camera is when we go places.

I have a Nikon Coolpix, it takes very good pictures/vids and is easy to use. Sucks batteries faster than a hungry puppy on moms tit tho... so make sure you have extras on hand ;)

I'm watching to see what people recommend to you. I had two Nikon Coolpix that loved, but they both stopped working because the lens would stick and not come open, I tried everything to fix it but nothing worked.

I use a Nikon L100 which I love and have recommended to many people, but many models are good. Optical zoom, megapixel and price dictate the final choice for me. In my opinion, the main thing you want to make sure you understand is the shutter delay. If you have a camera with shutter delay "to correct red eye" then you end up with a lot of out of focus pics due to the shutter delay, meaning it flashes, then a fraction of a second later the shutter opens. Most human subjects think once it flashes they are done, so they move and you end up with a blurred photo. The shutter delay also causes problems with quick candid or action shots. Most of the software that comes with newer cameras has editing capabilities, so you can manually remove the red eye when you upload the photos to your computer. Summary: avoid a camera with shutter delay.
