Digital Camera - Advise on What You Use!

I'm needing to purchase a new digital camera but I'm not satisfied with the quality of pictures I've seen in others. My current camera is only a 4.0 megapixel Olympus and I absolutely LOVE it.(It takes way better pictures then my moms 8 megapixel thats a new Canon). My Olympus takes wonderful pictures and is very easy to opperate, but the only problem is that I cant purchase a bigger memory card for it (they discontinued making it). Does anyone have any suggestions on the brand of camera they use and why. I've tried going into stores but the salesmen are not so into what your needs are as a customer, in their eyes every camera is good. Help before I resort in searching on ebay for a memory card to fit my "out dated camera"!!!

What can I do next?

We had an Olympus until the shutter started having issues. I loved it and was also nervous in buying a new camera. The Camera we have now is even better and my whole family has the same camera and loves it as well. It is 7.2 Mega Pixels Sony Cyber-shot. The video on it is pretty good to and can be used in place of a video camera. Hope this helps.

We have had a Canon Power Shot G5 for about 4 years. It is only a 5 megapixel but it takes awesome pictures. We were also able to get a huge memory card and can store about 1000 pictures on it. I'm sure they have an updated version of this one out there. I also have a small camera that I carry in my purse sometimes. It is a Kodak Easy Share. It is 8 megapixels and doesn't take near the quality of pictures that our Canon does.

My favorite point and shoot was a 3.2 MP Olympus. I would never go with another company for a point and shoot! I wore ours out over 3 years (the shutter button stopped working right).
Do you have xD cards? You can still buy those online, or at Office Depot (I saw them there 2 months ago). I don't know how big they are, but that's no reason to up and buy a whole new camera that takes good pictures. I had about 4 cards for mine, and a little card carrier that I slipped into my camera bag with extra batteries. With a 4 MP camera, you shouldn't fill up your cards too fast. I have a Nikon D60 SLR that takes huge pictures, so I have actually filled up a 2 GB card, but I hardly ever filled up my cards with my Olympus.

hi,
I also recommends Canon Power Shot SD 750 digital ELPH. It is a canon though. However i like it because it is small and i can easily keep it in my diaper bag. I think it does take good quality pictures. You can also use it as video camera ,however i haven't use that function much yet.

Hey J.-
I'm a professional photographer so I usually shoot with one of my big DSLRs. Sometimes those just aren't practical to lug around so I did alot of shopping around for a good Point and Shoot to carry in my purse when I take the kiddo to the park or the zoo and stuff. I settled on a Nikon Coolpix L3. It's a 5.10 megapixel camera with a Nikkor 3x optical zoom.
I'm pretty spoiled with my DSLR's and I'm very picky when it comes to cameras... but I really like it.
It's got a bit of a shutter lag (which drives me batty) but that's hard to avoid with any point and shoot. All in all I've been really happy with it and I use it ALOT!
Infact... when we went to Disney World last year I left both of my DSLR's at home and only took the Point and Shoot... so that should tell you how much I trust it. :)
That's my 2 cents... I hope it helps!

I will tell you what not to get - the Sony Cybershot! My husband bought it from best buy last year. I've hated it since day 1. I tried taking it back and they talked me out of it. They chalked it up to user error. I've had nothing but trouble with it and it takes horrible pictures. I really would love to get a digital SLR. 2 of my good friends have the Nikon D40 and D40X and they both really like them a lot.

I had an Olympus and had the same issue. I saw that you didn't like your mom's cannon, which is too bad, because that was what I was going to recommend. I ended up buying the Cannon S51S and I adore it! The pictures look like PICTURES. They are a little soft looking and look like film cameras did. If you really love your camera, you can look on Ebay for a new memory card. Our old camera would only take a 512MB card (or smaller) and all the new ones are now 2GB. But when I switched cameras, I gave my old one to my husband, and he got an extra 512MB card on Ebay. Maybe that's all you need.

K, I know you don't like the Canons, but that's what I have. Both an ELPH and a digital SLR. I love the ELPH because it's small so I keep it in my purse at all times. It also does video and they seem to be a pretty good quality. I also like the quality of the photos - mine are very sharp and clear - as long as the settings are right. The SLR is awesome, but it's a big camera, so I don't find myself using it nearly as much
