Where's the best place to purchase an area rug? Friend of mine is looking for one. Design style is traditional.

Thanks!

It really depends on what they're looking for...Lowe's and Home Depot have lots you can take home that day in certain sizes and special order on others. They usually have a catalog you can view too. Home Decorator's is good, also owned by Home Depot, but catalog only. Also, many carpet retailers can "bind" the edges of carpet if there's a particular carpet they like and therefore create a large area rug. Crate & Barrel is my favorite for area rugs but they generally only go up to an 8 x 10 ish size. JcPenney is also a good place to try if you're talking washable but their catalog line also has a lot of choices of more traditional area rugs.

Home Depot or Lowes or Target or even a carpet barn or a rug store...it all depends on how much $ she is wanting to spend. I am still in the stage of my life where we buy the cheap ones from Target or Walmart...but with 3 small kids there is no reason to invest in anything too expensive just yet :)

If she wants real wool, they will be more expensive.

Ikea's wool rugs are pretty cheap, and they have traditional Persian rug pattens as well as the modern ones.

Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel also have really nice rugs, but more expensive.

The Home Depot, etc. suggestions below are only for synthetic rugs. You get what you pay for. But if she's willing to buy synthetic, Target often has nice rugs.

Oh, also, both Pier 1 and Cost Plus are really good places for fairly cheap rugs.

I happen to like Target. I bought a shag style approximately 8X10 for $150.

The "Dump" has very nice rugs and at reasonable prices. We purchased a really nice one there. Good luck in your search!

garden ridge, home depot, target... it depends on the price range really. grapevine mills mall i think has a rug showroon, or at least they used to, pretty expensive imported ones though.
