My friend was complaining yesterday that her daughter's husband spends every free minute in the evening playing on the X-Box. I told her that I had a feeling that is not uncommon, and I would ask other moms if they have had a similar experience. Having never used one, I have no idea how addictive those games can be. Your thoughts?

So What Happened?

Video game addiction I get, I guess it is really the same thing.

My husband...oh, excuse me, EX-HUSBAND, was addicted to World of Warcraft. Another thing I don't miss, thanks for reminding me!

Video Game addiction is a real thing, my friend just did his master's thesis on it. My husband likes to play online role-playing games, right now it's Star Wars Online. But he has scheduled nights to play and only plays on the weekends if we tell him it's ok. He knows that I refuse to be second to a game, I had a bf who I could literally walk naked in front of but if he was playing Final Fantasy, it was more important, and that's one of my deal breakers. Plus he understands that family is more important than gaming.

But it can be an addiction, so if she's really worried, she needs to talk to him about it.

LOL - we've had our issues. It's usually only after a new COD or FIFA game come out. We have a 16 year old and a 21 year old so he uses "bonding" time as an excuse but that doesn't really explain the hours he's spent playing by himself, haha. Fortunately, my husband self monitors so it comes and goes in waves. It's been months since he's played so I'm guessing I should be bracing myself for the next wave - I think a new COD is coming out soon and I'm sure he'll be first in line to get it for the, eh hem, "boys." I'll tell him "see you in a couple of weeks" :/

My brother, on the other hand, straight addict.

I figure it's my fault. :) My husband OFFERS to let me play with him, but I can't (can't get the movements down right and end up making myself dizzy). However, I do sit and talk with him while he plays. There are some games we play together, though, like the Lego games. It MIGHT be true that he bought me both of the Lego Harry Potter games.... :) If it's being done in a way that neglects everything else, then yes, there is a problem. My husband loves his CoD, Battlefield, and other similar games, but if I really needed to talk to him or needed him to do something for me, he'd stop.

My fiance was addicted to the Xbox for awhile but since he has started working 3rd shift if he plays its on the weekends when he gets home so it doesnt bother anyone. Now a days my 4 almost 5year old seems to be the one addicted to the xbox! he just found his love of football so if he's not playing physically, he wants to be playing on the xbox or watching it! lol

I used to be.
ALL of his friends played.
It's been years now & he has gotten so much better.
It was so bad. He just would not help me with the baby.
He was addicted AND clueless.
It helps that his friends no longer play.

It's highly annoying how addicted they become but at least he was home.
I loved when the headphones came out so I didn't have to hear all of the
conversations & noise.

While it's not every free minute, he does come down stairs to eat and get more iced tea, LOL, my boyfriend spends a great deal of time on his computer playing some game. He'll sit in the living room and watch football 3 nights a week but he mostly plays his game. There have been times where I ask him to eat dinner with me instead of taking it back upstairs but some days it really doesn't bother me lol, cause it means I get to read my books =) Then again, I knew when I got into a relationship with him that he played video games a lot so I can't be too upset or shocked by it now. Tell your friend, her daughter is definitely not alone in this.
