we used Adam the Answer Man in Garland for years, but I don't know if he is still around or not. They would tell you what was wrong with the appliance and you could fix it yourself if you were a little handy. Their number used to be in the book or online.
I use Gunn Appliance and Repair. I don't have the number on me right now, but they are awesome. Very honest and will tell you if the appliance is worth fixing or if you are better off replacing it.

When my dishwasher broke I called Accurate Appliance Repair and they were great. Their number is ###-###-####. They were very friendly and didn't pressure me into anything. I highly recommend them. Good luck!
