Just went to gyn for peri-menopausal sx and he prescribed Zovia. I understand what it is and the side effects etc..., I am just wondering if anyone has had any luck with regarding peri-menopausal symptoms

Also, can share your peri-menopausal symptoms and experiences,.

I have been having the worst hot flashes day and night. Have not been sleeping well, feel very moody and irritable, weight gain, not been able to concentrate, keep forgetting what I was going to say and things like that.
have not had my period since early January, prior to that my period became irregular and heavy at times.

I know the above can be symptoms of other things, but for me it is peri menopause and other causes have been ruled out including hypothyroid.

What can I do next?

Did you Dr run your hormone levels you could be in estrogen dominance??. Like your estrogen, progesterone and testosterone????? I was the same as you...moody, weight gain, sleep was horrible, tired all day. My B12 was 288 and my testosterone level wasn't even readable in my blood!!! I do hormone replacement therapy which has been a god send!!! I take a synthetic progesterone pill and use a compound testo gel. My periods are better, sleep is better, no more moodiness and my libido is back!!! Birthcontrol will do the same thing to you as peri menopause:(

Good luck

When you say "hypothyroid has been ruled out" - what were your numbers? Some doctors still believe a TSH below 5 is healthy, but there is a growing number of physicians who see anything at or above a 3 as abnormal, especially in women. My doctor does and it was like getting my life back. After years of trying to figure out what was wrong with me, I feel so wonderful again. Check your TSH - it should be around 2, but definately below 3.

I don't take any meds and refuse to, because sometimes one med leads to another or so it seems. I can still see my father with his baskets of meds and I don't want to be like that. He started off with one little pill, which corrected one problem and lead to another so he was given another pill...before we knew it, he had a basket full of pills to take everyday. I just try to keep my chin up and keep telling myself, "This too shall pass." I went through the hot flashes and now only get them if I bend over. I had the night sweats, but don't get them anymore. When I did, I just wore a lighter nightgown and had covers to do the nightly "on/off" exercise. I try not to worry about lack of sleep and think, "My body will sleep when it needs it." Now, I drive my hubby crazy and sleep like a log any time I lay my head down anywhere, including the couch! :) What I really hated was the breast pain and ichy nipples. That really drove me crazy, but I put up with it. I wound up wearing a light bra at night for the breast pain. Now, that seems to have stopped too. Now I'm dealing with the weight gain. Haven't figured it out yet. Did find a website that said when the body makes less estrogen, it looks for it in our fat and will cling onto every cal. turning it into fat as an estrogen substitute. So I have a new theory.....I want to try to make it harder for my body to make fat out of cal. Straight fat turns into fat rather quickly. Starches turn into sugar quickly and then into fat if not burned off. So.....I'm thinking a low-fat diet coupled with a low starch diet just like Swartzenager says. You need vitamins, but my doctor doesn't want me taking vitamins. He said I have to try to get them naturally in my food, this means I can't cut all carbs out. I can lower the amount of starches and cane sugar. (bananas, candy, bread, pasta, peas, corn, etc.) Notice I said limit and not completely cut out. (You still need the soluble, just not as much.) Citrus fruit is fine, because it's mostly water and insoluble fiber. Wish me luck. It's difficult when your used to eating a starch at every meal and as snacks. Oh and I've noticed I exercise less, so I'm starting to force myself to exercise. 15 or 20 min. of exercise is better than no exercise. I in the process of building back up to 45 -50 min. of exercise per night. The joint pain is what made me lazy. I had joint pain that didn't make any sense, even to the doctor. Even had testing done and nothing showed up. It went away as mysteriously as it came.
