A. your best bet is a second opinion from another doctor. The ladies here are very kind but they cannot know if you really need surgery or not. I have cysts too, but all cases are different. Please discuss this with your doctor and another if you feel it necessary.

Hello, My name is T. I am a 34 year old mom and i was told when i was 28 that I had fybriod tumors on my uterus and was told my uterus needed to be removed, I had it removed when my 2nd child turned 4 and sinnce then i was told that I have cysts on my overies as well, my o.b. told me that it's normal to have cysts on your overies but not like the ones I had, I didn't want my overies removed due to harmones and all, so he told me that all though I could not have any more babies that we would try birth control, I was then put on the pill and (they was strong) well I was on them for a year and the pills worked so I didn't need the surgery....i hope this helps and maybe it might work for you as well. thank you T.

A.,
I had one ovarian cyst when I was pregnant with my daughter. It ruptured during the pregnancy and it was extremely painful. But other than the discomfort my doctor said I would be fine. My sister has several right now and yes they are causing some discomfort, surgery is usually a last resort and only if the cysts continue to grow or are attached in such a way to cause harm. It's your body, it's your choice.

Take care of it girl! If it ruptures it will hurt.
I had a cyst that ruptured. I did not know that I had the cyst. It was the worst pain ever. I ended up having exploratory surgery. That is when they found the cyst. I was hospitalized for 3 days.

If your Dr. says you need surgery I would suggest you follow that advice, or get a second opinion. I know I had to have surgery and I was 3 months pregnant when they had to do it. My cysts would not stop growing. My Dr. said they can cause major problems and even death. Cysts can twist your tubes causing all kinds of pain, they can burst causeing major issues, and the thought of dying scared me enough to do what I had to do. Get a second opinion if it makes you feel better, but don't ignore the Dr's advice.

Good luck!

Hi A.,

I second the opinion of the first response. I do know that my doctor once told be that little bitty cysts are very common, we all get them, they burst and go away. I would be concerned that if you have one that is complex, it could grow into something else, or worse yet burst and cause lots of internal bleeding.

Good Luck.

CJ

Hello,I have had problems with ovarian cysts for years and it is no fun.I have had 2 surgeries, both of which went just fine.I was in a lot of pain prior to the surgeries and afterwards I felt much better. In my case the cysts led to infertility.I do not know if you want more children or not but if you do I would seriously consider the surgery. It is not too painful and you recovery fairly quickly afterwards.Good luck!!

If your dr. thinks you need the surgery PLEASE have it. I had a cyst develope on my left ovary during my pregnancy. It ended up attaching to my placenta, and taking my babies nutrients. At 33weeks I went to the hospital in EXTREME pain. they said the cyst was big and the baby was small, and they needed to do an emergency c-section. My baby weighed only 2lbs 6oz. the cyst weighed 3lbs 14oz. I had begun hurting because it was about rupture. If it had ruptured, because of ti's size and location, me and my son would not be here. I did lose my ovary. My doctor was supposed to keep and eye on it. She said we might need to do surgery. then she never looked at it again. Please, don't ignore them.

Definitly get a second opinion any time you are uncomfortable with a diagnosis. However, a woman I work with had an ovarian cyst that burst and she was really sick and in a lot of pain for several weeks. It might be worth it to do the surgery.

Complex cysts are a difficult diagnosis. Small pockets of solid tumor can hide in one or more of the lobes or compartments of a complex cyst. Doctors will want to keep a close eye on those type of cysts. It's true that most are benign but there is always a chance it could be cancerous. Your doctor is right that it should probably come out if it is changing substantially in size. Although your young age does increase the chances that the cyst is benign, you should take it seriously, because even at your age it is possible to have cancer, even though it is not probable. If it is cancer, you will want to know so you can have it removed while it is still small and you are likely to be cured with surgery.

I had one on each ovary. They had hardened, forgot the term they used, and I was in extreme pain. I ended up collapsing and being sent to the ER where they did it as an emergency surgery, wasn't much fun. But the recoup time really isn't that bad. I was back at work in 4 days. They also took out my appendix, cause at first they thought that was the problem. I would trust your Dr. and just get it over with.
