Can I go to JC Penny or Dillards and let them try different make up on me for free? What would the fee be if not?

What can I do next?

I rather go to Ulta and have it done and yes, it's free any day of the week. I have even gone in for a night out when I was looking for something different from my arsenal of ideas, and it was free! I tend to buy at least one of the products used as well, but that's normally because I love them!

Most places do free makeovers on walk-ins as long as it isn't a weekend. You can (and should) just call them and ask so there are no suprises. I know our MAC counter takes appointments and charges on the weekends because they get so busy they have to employ extra workers to work the counters while the others are doing appointment makeovers.

sometimes the stores give you a "make over" in hopes that you will buy some of the products...you would have to go to the make up counter(s) to see...I know Nordstroms and Macy's are USUALLY free (i"ve not done this in years) and basically expect you to purchase some of the products

You sure can, you usually have to ask if they have time, if not they will make an appointment for you. The deal is they will make a card similar to the one the cosmetologist makes for your hair. The catch is that, of course they want you to buy the products they use on you, you are not obliged to do so but usually you can find something you really like and purchase it or go back a little at a time and buy what works for you. The ladies do work on some sort of commision, it differs from each store (Macy's, Penny's, Dillards, etc..) so it's nice to purchase after they spend the time & expertise helping you to be beautiful! ;)

I would call and ask - different places might have a different policy. I remember years ago, Clinique would do one side of your face and you were to do the other side as a practice, not sure they still do this. That might be what you're wanting, might not. I now have MAC do my make up for special events. They ask that you buy $50 in product. Other counters might only ask that you buy $25 or none, I'd just call around to different brands within the stores. But, ask if they do full make-up or half and how much they charge up front or if a required purchase is necessary and if so how much is the min purchase. And then you'll have the info you need. Good luck.
