Hello Mamas! My husband and I will be going on an Alaskan cruise in June (our very first time on a cruise too). Just curious if anyone has gone during this time and what the average temperature was like? I know I still have plenty of time, but want to make sure I pack the right kind of clothes, jackets, items..etc. Appreciate your help!

What can I do next?

The key to Alaska is layering. It can start out cold and then warm up. T-shirts under sweaters, under a light coat. I brought a 3/4 length nylon hooded coat for the day we were in the glacier park...boy was it cold there. But, the rest of the trip was wonderful weather, and I took off my sweater and wore the T-shirts in the afternoons. Others have mentioned casual in the daytime, with nice clothes for the dining room in the evening...this is correct. Your cruise line should inform you about any formal nights on the ship...I know a lot of folks don't like formal night, but we love them. A real chance to get truly fancy! We have cruised all over the world, but Alaska was one of the most scenic and relaxings cruises I've been on. Enjoy it!

i know that when i went (i was 18 so this was a few years ago) it was in june - i only brought one pair of jeans, the rest shorts, and i felt like an idiot. take jeans. sweaters and long sleeved shirts, a decent jacket, but not a heavy winter coat. maybe a few t-shirts for warmer days. hope this helps. (don't know the temp - possibly highs of like fifty?) also it does not get dark this time of year so be prepared. we flew into anchorage at 2 am and it was twilight. have fun, it'll be amazing!

First you will need a dressy outfit for at least one dinner during your cruise. We took one and it was in the 70s just beautiful and we had jeans for the days and short sleeve tops-with a sweat shirt and jacket-just in case it was cold. Also a swin suit for the ship's pools. We also took a couple of long sleeved warmer things for the day-but inour case never used them. Now my girlfriend went on the same cruise two weeks later and it was cold and rainy-best bet is to watch the weather reports on the news and follow their predictions. Of course they sell lots of neat stuff on the ship for you to buy and wear immediately. Have fun!

We have been in June and August --- the weather is much the same all summer (the temps are influenced by the water temps), but June isn't as rainy as Aug. Out on the decks while cruising or going through the fijords is COLD. Plan on coats, hats, and gloves; you can always take them off. We love the Alaska cruises; the scenery is breathtaking!!! Packing for a cruise is challenging. Daytime is very casual, jeans & tee shirts; you won't spend much time in or around the pool, unless your ship has a covered pool, but you may want to hit the jacuzis so pack swimsuits - - just make sure you take a warm robe to wrap up in when you getout :) (check to see if robes are provided). In the evening you need to dress up a little for the dining rooms, they call it 'resort casual', think "business casual". An then there are the formal nights when you get quite dressed up -- suits/blazers and dresses/gowns (tuxes aren't necessary, but some men do wear them). Check with the airline for luggage restrictions, weight and charges so you don't have any surprises at the airport. Make sure you go to the cruise ship website to read thier suggestions, there should be average temp info for the cities you will visiting also. You should also fill out all the " paperwork" on-line so that check-in at the dock goes quickly and smoothly. If you are going in/out of Canada I think you need a passport. It also helps to sign up for the shore excursions on-line ASAP, many of the popular tours/events will sell out quickly. Many of the shore excursions are more expensive than in the Caribbean, but they are worth it. We signed up twice for helicoptor tour of the Hubbard Glacier, and had it cancelled both times due to rainy weather that grounded all flights. Oh well. Have a back-up plan. One more "caution" -- it seems like every time you turn round someone is taking your picture; and you will want to buy every single one !!! Be selective or you will pay a fortune (we do plan on getting our pictures taken on formal night and buying several). I won't say don't overeat, because that's half the fun. We just make sure we go for several walks around the promenade deck and take the stairs rather than the elevators. We love cruising; hope you have a wonderful time.

Sounds like you've already got a lot of great ideas. I really can't add anything. We've been twice, once in June and once in July. The June trip was quite a bit chillier, and as another poster said, if you do an excursion to see the glaciers in the fijords it can be pretty cold and rainy.
The Alaskan Cruise is one of my all time favorite vacations! It is amazingly beautiful. Enjoy every minute!

In good health,
