Hi Guys!!! Im 26weeks along with my belly button pierced. I really wanted to leave it in through out my pregnancy but it's starting to be a little uncomfortable. If anything I'll just remove it. Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch!!!

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your input- it really helped me make my decision. I took it out.. a few hours later I came across some fishing line and looped it threw the hole. I didn't want to risk the hole closing.

Hi Tiara,

Take that puppy out!!

I left mine in just a little too long and ended up stretching the hole the ring goes through and now have a funny bump .. even with a ring in.

I don't know if anyone has left theirs in for the entire pregnancy, but my doctor told me to take mine out when I found out I was pregnant...

Definately take it out or you can really stretch the hole. You should replace it with a pregnancy friendly one. Any really long one made of flexible plastic will do. They make cute ones with pacifier charms or it's a "---" on them.

I just took mine out when it started getting uncomfortable - which was pretty early, since it started rubbing against my waistband. I fully expected the hole to close....but it didn't and I just put mine back after giving birth without a problem. One of the factors is how long you've had it, I had mine for over ten years when I got pregnant.
BTW I didn't have to remove any jewelery when I gave birth - it depends on your provider, where you give birth and whether you choose to have any elective interventions such as an epidural.
Good luck!

I took mine out but knew someone that made a ring out of fishing line to keep it open. They also sell flexible pregnancy rings now :)

Hi Tiara-

I stuck thick fishing line (they come in different size diameters) through my piercing. They sell it at any store that has sports equipment (my friend did the same thing and found the string at Walmart). Works like a charm until after you have your baby and can stick the ring back in.

Take care!

My friend had the same problem. She took it off until after the baby was born because it started to get painful for her. She was worried the hole would close but it didn't and she was able to put it back in after her baby was born. You would have to take off any and all jewlery during labor anyway. Best of luck!!

They make pregnancy belly button rings that are more pliable than the normal stainless steel kind. There are several kinds, I had 2 different ones for my 3 pregnancies. But I left it in the entire time for all of them, it hurt too much when I got it pierced to risk letting it close! ;-)

This was my favorite pregnancy belly ring. http://www.pregnancypiercings.com/

Good luck!

Take it out. Your belly button is not going to be a place you'll want to adorn or accentuate after you have the baby. I assure you, I lost all my baby weight but still have a weird looking belly button. It gets pretty stretched. It's really a big bummer. Lots of things don't have the same zing after you have a baby. Just one of those things...

I kept mine in for both of my pregnancies until I had to take it out since I was too big. I say keep it in for as long as it's comfortable. I took mine out for both of my pregnancies and have since put it back in and it's fine. May take a little pushing to get through at first, but will go back in.

There is an ad in Fit Pregnancy this month about pregnancy belly rings. I don't have one, but I was drawn to the ad because the rings were either really cute, or super cool for a pregnant mom. I believe the difference is a longer or more flexible "stud" for the part that goes through the hole.

I had a belly Ring 13 years ago when I got pregnant with my son and my body literally started pushing it out of my body. My Dr and my Tatto Artist( who had done the piercing) said that that can happen because your body is removing a foreign body. So I thought Id wait it out a little bit and now I have a big scar where it was. I would take it out if I were you. Get it redone when you have the baby and lose the weight. Trust me that scar isn't pretty.

I, too, have my belly button pierced. I had twins, so to say that my stomach was huge is an understatement. Around 28 weeks I took it out, but twice a week I would thread it through to keep the hole open. It worked, and as soon as I came home from the hospital I stuck it back in. The funny part is that, for me, it looks so ridiculous on my jiggly, stretched out belly, but I don't want to look at the scar that would be left behind. So, for now, I'm keeping it in!

I took my belly ring off as I got further along in my first pregnancy. I ended up having to repierce it. I left it in for the entirety of my second pregnancy, and it worked out wonderfully. However, I was never all that uncomfortable. If you can, I would suggest leaving it in as long as possible. It just felt less intrusive to me to leave it, but that's just my experience. Good luck!

I tried to keep mine in but finally took it out at 38 weeks because it was getting real tight and uncomfortable. I think it looked unique so I tried to keep it in as long as possible. BUT, if you have to take it out, you have to take it out....
