Hi Moms - Planning on going to the Adler Planetarium this month. Do any of you know if there are discounts or coupons out there? I know they have "discount days" and so far, it looks like my family would be best off buying a yearly membership vs. getting 4 standard tickets. But I wasn't sure what else was out there. I know there is something called "CityPass", but I've never used it and don't know much about it. any info would be great!
Thank you!

I think that today and tomorrow are free days. Might want to take advantage if you can go on a weekday.

We used the Chicago City Pass when we visited there for vacation in 2009 and it was fantastic. Though you apparently live in the general area, it could be useful to you if you want to do several things in a fairly short time frame. City Pass gives you admissions to certain attractions like the planetarium, many museums, and I think it even got us into the Hancock Building for the view but am not sure. I think the pass is good for a certain period (like, 48 or 36 hours?) so it would be more cost-effective to use it if you're spending more than one day in a row in the city. Can't recall the cost but for our museum-hound family of three coming from out of town, it was much more reasonable than paying full admission everywhere. Check it out online -- I'm sure there is a City Pass web site because other cities have the same thing, or call the Adler and ask them how to find out about City Pass. Or check the Adler or other museum web sites and they likely will have a link to it. Have fun!

There aren't many discounts out there but I found this:

On Discount Days, general admission is free!

2011 Discount Days:March: 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 15, 16

More dates coming soon!

The city pass encompasses all of the museums and not worth purchasing at about $65 per person if just one museum.

Another option if you are in Chicago (looks like you're in a suburb though) - go to your public library branch. They usually have free passes available to various city attractions, unless someone else currently has them checked out. I haven't used it myself yet so I'm not exactly sure how it works.
