I would try craigslist, they have ads for stuff like this and it would be local, it is divided up by area of CT if you have never tried it before.
Try craigslist.org - or freecycle.org - I have great luck with them! Just make sure you have the right county when you do it - I have tried Fairfield and New Haven and have had more luck with New Haven.
What part of CT do you live in? Check the bargain news or there are websites where you can post your request and if people are giving stuff away they will call you for free. I will see if I can get the address for you.
