Has Anyone Donated Car Seats in CT? Where Will People Take Them?

Both my kids grew out of their car seats (that are up to 40 lbs with 5 point harness) and we replaced them with the Britax Regeant with 5 point harness that goes up to 80 lbs. We have several car seats purchased in 2003 - so they are not yet expired and I hate to just bring them to the dump. But it seems that no one will take them as they don't know if they've been in accidents or recalled. They have not.

Has anyone found a place that needs them if they are structurally sound and not yet expired? Donations places or women's shelters will not take them, police will not take them...

What can I do next?

You can bring them to any local resale shop. They all take car seats that are in good condition and have no recalls. Then you can make a little money on them. You can also donate them to Goodwill or join your local Freecycle and offer them up to someone who may need them.
You can also call the SafeKids group and ask if there is anyway to donate them that way. Social workers may have a need as well.
I know that My Cousin's Closet resale shop in Gales Ferry donates to Karyn's Closet- which is an organization that collects clothing and gear for children in Foster Care. You could probably drop them there to be donated to that charity.
Good luck!

you might want to try calling your local youth service buraeu or child and famikly services department in your area. Almost every town has one...I live in East Haddam and even WE have one! They might be able to take them and distribute to families in need. You could also try contacting social services, and they might be able to point you in the right direction...if all else fails and being a giving, altruistic person is just not working out, there is a consignment store (actually a few...one in Rocky Hill, one in Manchester and Milford/Orange CT...called "Once Upon a Child" (i think!)that will take children's items in good condition and give you $$$ right there on the spot.

try freecycle.org, there are lots of ppl who are on there to give and or get things that they need or need to be rid of. They are locally run in most towns.

I would put them on Freecycle. Have you heard of it? It's an online "get rid of the stuff that's perfectly good and you just don't want anymore" site. The idea is to keep good stuff from going into the landfills. There are thousands of chapters of Freecycle around the country. If you go to Freecycle.org you should be able to sign up for a group near you. Good luck!
